Hey again.
Here with an update for you. Rikku didnt get any better, the lumps in her tummy just got harder. I took her to the vets today and they didnt want me to take her home. The vet said she wanted to take an xray and try a few things to her help pass it. If none of thats works they will have to cut her open. I feel terrible, I cried when i left the vets, I cant stand levaving her there all alone but at least she has her fave blanket. Some how it feels like I let her down by leavin her there, and now i have nothing to do but look at and empty tank.

I am so sorry. That must have been horrible for you to have to leave your baby. We will send positive thoughts your beardies way and hope the vet is able to help with out surgery. Good luck to you both.

Heya guys
Here to give you another update on Rikku. She is still at the vets, still been treated. I have been ringing everyday to check on her. I'm told she is bright, happy and eating like a horse, but so far there has been no change with her blockage. Tomorrow is the big day, I find out if vet will ask to do an opp or not. I cross my fingers that I get her back tomorrow. If it comes down to it I am happy to pay for the opp cost, but does anyone know how much this kind of opp would cost? My family all think I should just let her go and get another( even offering to buy me a more costly beardie) , but I love my little baby and I have no plans to let her go without a fight.

The vet just called a few mins ago, she wants to do the opp. I was hopin if it came to this that i would get the chance to give Rikku a hug first, but the vet wants to do the op today and in the next few hours. So now I just gotts sit here and wait for the phone to ring. I hope she wakes up again.

Well the lumps started as sand that she had eaten, they got bigger as she eat anything as nothing could pass through. I was told by the vet that they removed large amounts of sand and old poop. The only way to stop this happening is to remove the sand from the tank. I think its a very good idea to check your dragon over for any odd lump or bump when ever you bath them. I will be phoning the vets tomorrow to check up on her.

I spoke to the vets yesterday and all seemed well, she was eating and pooping, I was told to call today so I could take her home. was so happy, couldnt wait to see her little face. Phoned today only to be told that I couldnt take her home or even see her, she has stopped eating ( well i dont think anyone would feel like eating if u had had a big op and then got poked with a needle everyday ). Anyway got an appointment to see the vet tomorrow, so with any luck I will get Rikku back or at least get to see her and give her a hug. kinda worried about the after care she will need, I have no idea what it will be like, I'm guessing she will need a lot of extra care after her opp.

My heart goes out to your little girl. This further solidifies the reason why I absolutely refuse to believe that sand is acceptable as a substrate for bearded dragons. I'm so sorry you have to go through all this.. I wish I could hug you and your little baby. :(

Heya Guys.

Very happy to tell you all that Rikku came home from the vets today. She is still off her food, but the vet thinks she will be better at home with me. She is still a little dark in colour and sleepy, but the vets says she is doing great and that it will take her a while to recover. The vet showed me what she had removed during the op - half a cup of sand!!!!!! She has a long line of neat stitches down her belly which will be removed in 6 weeks. I have to give her an injection every two days and then take her back next week for a check up. The vet was very happy with the out come and said that a lot of it was down to Rikku been strong and healthy. I am so happy to have her back home with me at last. Ty all for your kind words and tips. I will keep you up to date and at some point post a pic,

Hey guys.

Ty again for all your help and kind words. I was told by the vets that Rikku would not eat without help, but the day after I got her home she ate her way through a whole dish on greens, it seems to tire her out but when she insnt sleeping she is back to her old crazy self. I think after all that time away she just needed to be back in her own tank, with me there to hug her when ever she needs it. I was worried that she hadnt pooped after I brought her home, but her bath today helped that out. I am finding the injections very hard to deal with, I do get them done, but it takes ages and we both end up stressed out. I am just very lucky that she is such a sweet heart and never tries to bite even when she is stressed and hurting. I only have one more to give her in two days time, but I worry that vet I go back to the vet I will be give more. Any tips you could give me on injections would be wonderful and very welcome. I wanted to post some pics today put she fell asleep after her bath, so I will try and take some tomorrow and get them posted.

Hello,

We are all looking forward to seeing some new pictures of Rikku. It sounds like she is a very sweet & tolerant dragon and loves attention too!
The injections are never easy. Where are you giving them at, & are you rotating the site in which you are giving them in?
There is no "easy" way to give the injection, just as quick as possible before she starts to squirm. Are you going in between the scales, correct?

Keep us posted on her! I am happy that she is eating a little bit for you.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
Mirage entered brumation yesterday, I'm gonna miss hanging out with my little guy.
