Max is getting worse by the minute. Thank God he is sleeping, he can't do damage while he sleeps. It seems he has a parasite attacking his central nervous system. He is very confused, Can't see well, and his body goes really crazy and he has no control over it. He has not eaten in a week, trying to get a stool sample so we can start a med...that is if we have caught the bug in time. The vet says it doesn't look good.

Thank you

Hello,

Could you review your tank setup with us. What type & brand of UVB lighting are you using, a fluorescent tube bulb or a compact/coil light?
Do you use calcium supplementation on a regular basis?
What foods do you feed Max?

Thanks for the well wishes... I have managed to get him to eat nearly 4tsp of this egg yolk mixture, gave him a long warm soak and he passed some stool but sheer liquid, vet says we need it more solid :( He had a super intense episode tonight, vet says they are seizures. However he seems more plump and passing a stool is a plus. gave him some liquified mashed peas tonight hoping to produce a more solid stool tomorrow. The vet mentioned baby cereal watered down, anyone ever tried this? basically he needs something solid that the parasites will be found in. Poor guy isn't sleeping at night, he fell asleep in his warm soak though, he was so sweet.

As far as my setup...I have the reptisun 10.0 tube he gets calcium 5 days a week and mult 2 days a week. He used to eat 12-20 crickets a day plus a bowl full of kale or mustard greens. that all slowed down until last week when he stopped eating all together...Thanks for all the prayers! These "seizures" are super scary to watch and are getting more intense

Bless his heart!! Poor little guy..hey, you can get some chicken baby food, mix it up with some squash baby food, see if he will eat some of that. I so do hope he gets better.
Thoughts and prayers,

Hello,

I hope Max is feeling better.
What type of cereal did he suggest? The baby cereal should be fine, watered down for him.
The seizures, they are most likely caused by more than just parasites but calcium issues, too.
How close is the Reptisun 10 tube bulb to him? Is there any plastic or screen in between him & the light?
When were you trying to get the fecal done?
Is he sleeping much better right now?
Let us know how he is doing!

He slept through the night last night with no seizures, well at least that I know of, he was still in the same spot he fell asleep in. He really didnt feel like eating much today, maybe 2 tsp of baby food, I got the peas and carrots and apples with cereal mixed in then I just water them down. Maybe I should put some calcium powder in it? I have the stool sample the vet will test it tomorrow when he comes. Max's light is hanging on the back wall of his tank about 2 inches down from the top, so there is nothing between him and the light. Besides lack of calcium and parasites what else would cause the seizures? They have definitely become better, he doesn't seem to thrash around the tank as hard, and if I can manage to pick him up as they start and wrap him in a towel he calms down from them much quicker and I know he isn't hurting himself in the tank. Thanks for all your help. It has been a super long week, I can not wait for the vet to see him tomorrow!

The vet came today, said he looks really good considering. All my efforts feeding him with a syringe 3 to 4 times a day has paid off. However he has Cryptosporidium (parasite) and now liver dysfunction because of it. He is pretty yellow and normally he is a dark gray color. The vet gave him an injection of vit B and also injected his antibiotic. I can't remember the name of it. I fed him tsp of chicken babyfood mixed with peas and baby cereal. He loved it. I think we have a long road ahead of us, if he makes it. We are hoping there is no permanent damage done to his liver and/or the rest of his body. Time will tell, until then we will continue with daily baths and baby food. Thanks for all the thoughts and prayers. It is amazing how we become attached to these little creatures!

Any thing new? how is he?

Such a roller coaster ride! I actually thought he was dead this morning, he kept "gagging" but it seemed like he was trying to poop too so I thought maybe he was pushing to hard. I left him alone and went back later and he was laying on his side not breathing. so I laid him down and I thought he was gone. no breathing no movement..nothing...then suddenly he opened his mouth and took a huge breath. I have soaked him 3 times today in warm water. He would not eat his baby food this morning at all. also when I got up this morning he had pooped but also looked like he threw up all his food from last night. It looked just like his babyfood, not at all like poop. a little while ago he took 3ml of gatorade (which the vet said was great to give him) he took it like he loved it, but lots drained back out of his mouth when he laid down :( He is still really yellow....I am emotionally drained.

I'm so sorry to hear this. That sounds like a terrible scare you had so it is understandable that you are emotionally drained. I will continue to say prayers in hope of a recovery for Max.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
