okk so guys i havent realylooked into uros yet and reason being is im not trusting any care sheets. I need advice from people with experience. I know that they are vegans and to me thats a huge plus.theyprefer not to be handled and need a slightly larger enclosure than beardies. but what substrate , how

will i need to give them. thay are desert animals and of course i cant use tile because they burrow. and also the temps? i need the basics here and then ill research like the devils secratary

Yes uros are mainly vegetarians however some on here give them a superworm as a treat every now in then. I don't though.

Hmm, not to sure they "prefer" to not be handled but they are much more difficult to get them like bearded dragons where they will just sit around on ya.

The substrate I use is High quality bird seed, which you can see in most of my pictures in calcifers thread. Its nice because he can snack on it when he is hungry, and it provides some roughage in his stomach to help digest the greens.

Temps, mine at the moment are at 120 degrees. They need it above 115 degrees in their basking spot.

I know you said you didn't want a caresheet but these are the guys to go to for information on uros. They have been breeding them for years and have gone through all the trial and error, and is where I got most of my info when I started with calcifer: http://www.deerfernfarms.com/Uromastyx_Care.htm

thanks brandon. just one more thing. can i use an ordinary house bulb for light but not temps and uvb?

Yes you can. You can use normal lights for the heat too as long as it gets hot enough. For some reason i must have a really strong fixture because my 75 watt bulb produces that much heat for the basking spot in calcifer's tank but I use the same wattage in my beardies tank and theirs are at 104-ish all the time. It all depends on the fixture IME. As long as the bulb your using for light doesn't create more heat than you want you can use it.
