I took my girls to the vet a couple of weeks ago because they were not eating, he though they were backed up so he gave me a laxative. Well they are still not eating much and they are pooing fine so I took fecal samples in. He told me that they both have Pin Worms but it is really nothing to worry about. Is this true?? I dont have another herp vet anywhere near me so getting another opinion is out. If anyone can tell me if this is true or not, and if not do I need meds, and what meds do I need.
Thank You

Personally I don't think having any kind of parasite is "fine". I've heard that really low counts usually won't bother them but why take the chance? The medicine you need is called panacur and its really very mild. Pin worms is easily treated and I would go ahead and treat them both.

I'm no expert but my beardie was just diagnosed with pinworms too. My herp vet gave me Panacur for it. She got one dose and will get another in two weeks. I don't think that any parasite is "fine" either and should be taken care of somehow. Maybe one of the moderators will be by and give you more info on it. I think you can purchase it from beautifuldragons but i'm not sure of the dosing. Hope that helps some. Good luck!

I agree with Gail, I would treat for pinworms just to get rid of them. They don't do tissue damage but who would want them living in their body or their pets bodies. Eewww! Panacur will not have any adverse affects on the dragons so you don't have to worry about that either.

If your girls aren't eating as much as they used to, you have to figure, how old are they? Almost every dragon I've had would slow down tremendously between 7 months and a year in age. And the days are getting shorter so they may be affected and slowing down their metabolisms in preparation for winter. Some say its too young but I've had 7 month old dragons brumate, and all this seems more common in females but not always. The slow down has lasted from one to three months, depending on the dragon, but they have all come back from it and continue to eat and gain weight. As long as they are hydrated and not losing weight, I would just keep an eye on them. I've also noticed before they become adults they seem to get a little lazier and only bask to get the job done. The rest of the time they lounge and nap after their late moring romps.

They are both 7 month old but I have been fighting with getting them to eat all summer. I have tried crickets, mealies, supers, dubias, nothing has worked. They both got to about 16-17" in four months and havent really grown since, and now my big one Yoshi has started to lose weight so I really need to get something done.

My vet told me anytime I see a pinworm egg or worm they need to be treated. When they expell them, they have to many. Panacur is a very mild medicine and will kill them. I give panacur once a week for 4 weeks because you have to kill the worms in cycles.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
