Hello, this is my first post here, but I have been reading the topics and comments of fellow website users for a ho minute. I am currently in need of help. I have a beardie that is having a rough time right now. For almost a month now my beardie has been having breathing issues. It first started as a slight popping noise and now he is having gagging/choking/wet exhalations. When this issue first started I took him into a vet and he was prescribed baytril 0.3ml every other day for his body weight. I do not know the concentration. So I used that for the 3 weeks he said too and I did not notice a change. I retook him in to the vet and had a talk with him about other antibiotics because I had read on here that due to baytrils overuse, some bacteria may not be affected now. He spoke of injectable (foranz) or restart another thing of baytril. I did mention to him about About this site and another antibiotic I saw that was mentioned with great success. I could not recall at the time but I was able to call him and leave a message with his receptionist. He was suppose to call me yesterday but did not. No labs or xrays have been done on my beardie. Some info on his Viv: we have a uvb/uvb/heat lamp that is 160w, sitting on the left side of his 40 gallon tank. His bedding is bark, or wood chips. He has a rock and a hammock under the light. No water dish has been in since I read on here that it can cause the humidity to rise. The other side of his tank he has made his night time area where we have a ceramic bulb. Under the white light temps reach 105+ on the rock and the night end 70-80. His diet consist of worms, Dubai roaches, and crickets.
Latest signs and symptoms— eating less but still eating. Diet is now Dubai roaches with calcium. We bathe him every other day because he is trying to shed (but this doesn’t seem the same as prior sheds), poop is still normal looking and solid, his cough is now what was mentioned earlier (wet/popping sometimes), he has these periods (mostly after eating) where it seems like he is choking, and his beard is normal but during periods of choking or roug exhales can turn blackish. One day after feeding he started going beserk and flinging his head around and eventually some cloudy liquid came out. What really worries me is tonight, ( I hope I’m not wrong for this) but I read if I hold him with his nose pointing down that this can help fluid (if in the lungs) to potentially drain out. I did this due to what I felt was rather wet sounded exhalations, and he has a lot of clear fluids (almost like a runny nose) coming out of his nose and mouth. Should I go buy tylan and nebulize him, what should I have the vet test for, ihow serious is this?

I am no vet but it sounds like he has a RI-- Please PM TracieDrache613 she is the vet moderator and AHBD she/he is very knowledgeable w/ this -- click on their name on one of the boards and under email there is a PM message left side of page -- please explain to them what is going on ---
This does not sound good and I would be taking him back to the vet or find a different one- the vet you took him to was it a reptile vet?

Hello,

It does sound somewhat serious then, if the Baytril is not helping right now. Has the vet
called you back yet?
Did he suggest Ceftz/Fortaz for him?
Nebulizing is extremely helpful & effective. Do you have a way to get a nebulizer & if you do
have Tylan, that can be effective for a respiratory infection. Does your dragon have mucous
or discharge from his mouth or nose?
Can you review your tank setup with us a bit more? How are you measuring the temperatures?
I would also change out the substrate from the wood chips/bark to a non dusty & cleaner type.
Some better choices are non adhesive shelf liner, felt, textured slate tiles, reptile carpet or even
brown butcher's paper are better.
Also, keeping him a little warmer overnight would be helpful in boosting his immune system, too.

I measure my tank with an external probe. I will change out the lining today. He did suggest for tax (10 shots) given every 3 days but I was wanting to try the tylan more. I can get a nebulizer but I do not know how to dose or run it. So last night when I heard the wet sounds I had inverted him head downish to help maybe get some of it up, and a lot of clear mucous came out (nose bubbles and mouth drainage.

Sorry for not adding this. I do not think he is a herp specific vet, but he was mentioned by the herp store as the vet to go to. I was wondering, I guess tractor supply can not sell tylan 50 anymore, if I order tylan50 online do I order the injectable 100 ml tylan 50 for nebulize good it or is there a specific state it needs to be in. Also the herp store did not call it a nebulizer but rather a fogger. To me it’s the same thing, wondering if you guys had any info on that. The vet should call me or another lady today due to me calling back. They said tylan was no longer in stock there because it is old school.

Hello,

Those are not good symptoms, no. Go ahead & try to get him on a slight decline when he is
sleeping overnight to help anything drain out of him.
Try to keep his humidity levels under 30% if possible. I'm glad to hear you are using a digital
probe to measure his temperatures with. Which brand of UVB light are you using then?
Getting all of the dust out of the tank from the loose substrate will help out a lot for him.
The liquid for injecting & for using in a nebulizer should be the same. Sometimes the oral can
be used also. I can help with dosing & using a nebulizer sure. A fogger is a bit different than a
nebulizer but I haven't used a fogger before.
Tractor supply used to sell it but I guess not now. I know Tylan is still used but maybe not as
often now. The Tylan is good but the molecules may be a little larger than they should be to
be fully effective as far as lung penetration goes. If your vet wont prescribe the Ceft/Fortaz then
the Tylan would be better than nothing, or just use the Baytril for nebulizing.
If you can get a nebulizer, you can use the baytril to nebulize or you can get your vet to prescribe
some Ceftz/fortaz which is used for nebulization also.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
