Hi we are going to be redoing our tank set up and would like to know a good size take for a 1 1/2 yr. old and the proper light set up. We currently have a 30 gal long tank that is a bearded dragon starter kit. Lights and all. We have only maintained the lights by replacing them. I have been reading and reading and reading and I'll admit I'm absolutely lost and confused now on the proper ones to get or not get do to recalls and what not. This tank seems ideal. So tank size and the best/easiest lighting set up. Also our local pet stores don't offer larger reptile tanks than this one we have, they do offer aquariums however these have hoods. Would that work the same? Also not one reptile store here in town :( Does anyone know of a good place online to buy the proper tank and lighting? thank you very much

I dont know if this will help but this is how my lights are set up in Stompy's tank.

Starting on the left:
ReptiSUN 5.0 (you should get the 10.0 though) tube light in a tube light fixture. (bought at home depo)
Ceramic heat emiter bulb (need this for extra warmth here in western NY) in a dome light fixture. (this fixture is hanging on a plant hanger which we drilled into the wall)
Regular 60 watt bulb for extra light and warmth (this fixture is attached to the wall as well)

If you get a Mercury Vapor Bulb It will have the UV and heat from the same bulb. my other bearded dragon has a MVB so this is how i have it set up.

Starting on the left:
MVB hanging from a plant hanger that is drilled into the wall (needs to be at least 12 inches away from basking spot)
Ceramic Heat emiter ( this bearded dragon is at my moms house and needs extra warmth becuase we dont turn on the heat that often)

As for where to buy all this stuff I got one of my tanks at Petsmart. Both have screen lids. The other one I got at a regular pet store. They are both 40gal long tanks.

the dome fixtures and bulbs can be bought online. the cheapest place i know of is petmountain.com

the tube fixture i got at home depo

Hope this helps!

30 gal long is def not big enough for an adult dragon. 36" X 18" X 17" is the absolutw minimum size for a bearded dragon but 4'X2'X2' is strongly sujested.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
Mirage entered brumation yesterday, I'm gonna miss hanging out with my little guy.
