Please help. I don't know what to do

I got my bearded dragon (Paul) a month ago and for first 2 weeks he wouldn't eat anything but mealworms. I asked my friend and he said its fine he's always been like that. I googled it. They said it was bad for them and he's been feeding him mealworms for 2 years and nothing else. I don't know what to do? Also he's been on a heat mat for 2 years and never a headlamp. I got the right set up for him now but he's getting skinny ever since I changed it. I tried feeding him nearly everything on the caresheet but he doesn't even try it. I've starved him for a week now And he wont touch it. I do leave it in his Viv for 2 days then change

He'll adapt to the light instead of the mat. My Evee had a heat rock that she loved and sooked a bit when I took it out (she's a rescue, I didn't get the rock). She still won't eat anything but insects. I keep trying. If he's losing weight and being stubborn I would feed him. Maybe try mixing the mealworms with supers or hornworms (they are juicy). I would worry more about letting him adapt to the new habitat and putting weight on first and then the diet second. As long as he gets his vitamins, UVB light time, and healthy choices he should be ok.

I agree with NBGwen. Do you have calcium with D3 powder and some reptile vitamins to put on the mealworms ? At least that way he'll be getting some of the nutrients he needs. Can you post pics of him as well as the set up ? Here's how :

I have found that butterworms have the calcium and soft bodies that are good for beardies. My male loves mealworms and will throw a fit for them but my vet explained that mealworms are the McDonald's of the beardie world. He might like them but they are junk and his system needs something healthy. We started hiding worms in his salad that way he would accidentally eat some greens while hunting his junk food. Good luck!
