Hi all I need advise ASAP. I have a female beardie no who I'd a citrus red hypo and is around 9 months old. I recently got persuaded by a local pet store to purchase a citrus leather back hypo boy ( boris) for no. He is about 6 months old and has now been with her for 1 month. I thought not too long ago that she was gravid and did some research to find they are both way too young. Now she sits at the cool end of the tank eyes shut and her back and beard are going black she is not eating is cold to touch doesn't move and her poo stinks. Please can anyone advise me what to do
Many thanks

Hi Dawn,

Are the two dragons housed together?
If so I would separate them to their own enclosures ASAP.

Can you go over your setup with us?

What uvb bulb do you use?
How old is it?
What are the temps in your tank?
How are you measuring the temps?

How do you know that she is gravid?

Can you post pictures of her?

Thank you for responding. Yes they are both together. I went to the store where I got her from as she was originally a boy. She was obsessively digging and they said "she" was looking for a mate and they sold me Boris. They have been getting on really well together until 3 days ago when she stopped eating. She would never eat veggie and just had a diet of crickets and locusts until he showed her it was fine now they have live food 3 times a week with fresh vegetation every day + water. The tank is on a thermostat (digital) under heat lamp reads 30 and cool end reads 25. I noticed last week she was quite fat looking with what appeared like little marbles in her tummy so I googled it. She started digging madly 3 days ago and now she won't move. I have a UVB strip light and a 100w ceramic heat lamp.

Hi there,

So you can feel eggs in here?

First off, here is a thread you should check out:
http://www.beardeddragon.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=154908

You should provide her with a dig box, so that if she does have eggs, she can lay them.

So you only have a uvb bulb and a CHE?
You don't have a basking bulb that produces light?

CHE's should only be used at night to add warmth to the tank if temps drop below 65F.

Are you measuring the basking spot with a probe?
30c is about 86f. This is WAY too low. Bearded dragons need a basking spot of around 105f for the age of dragons you have!

Bearded dragons need a MINIMUM of 95f at the basking site to digest food.

You need to get a basking bulb that produces actual bright white light, and one that raises your temps ASAP.

To post pictures you need to upload your photos to a photosharing site such as photobucket.

From there you copy the IMG code of your photo, and paste that code into your post.

9 months old is way too young for your female bearded dragon to be bred. She needs to reach sexual maturity first! 18 months to 2 years old is best for her health. I hope she is not gravid for her sake, and that you separate them.

I am aware of this now but I went on the advise I the pet store thinking they know what they are talking about. All they were interested in are the offspring of 2 hypos. I could feel something in her but now it's gone. I am having issues with the heat lamp as this is the third one I had. They keep blowing ( all lighting and heating is on a timer) I got one heat lamp that just did not get hot enough even when the thermostats was up max. So the same pet store sold me the 100 w one I have now in a ceramic holder. I have a digital thermostats with a probe under the heat lamp and one in the cool end. I will turn up the temp. I love my beardies a lot and was just acting on info I was given with all good intentions.

Hi there,

I understand you love your dragons. I was not trying to paint a picture of you not caring for your dragons. If you didn't care, you wouldn't be here!

It is frustrating how the advice a lot of petstores give is actually bad. But that is why we are here!

When you hover over your image, it should give you a drop down menu with 4 or so different codes. Just copy the IMG code and paste it. :D

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
