Pinworms

Hello everyone! So I took my bearded Dragon to the vet today and he tested positive for pinworms. My vet told me it was normal for bearded dragons to have this parasite and we should not deworm him. He said that pinworms are found in crickets and are normal for bearded dragons to have and we shouldn't really worry about it. Does this sound correct and is this something I need to be worried about?

If it is a low count, then it's not always worth treating and may not cause any issues. Just be sure to sanitize everything very well, especially pooped on surfaces. Having some F10SC disinfectant on hand is helpful. If the parasite count increases as of the next visit/test then it may be worth treating which can often be done easily with medication.

So the vet did mention the count was low but my question is will the count not get worse or is this just a normal thing with bearded dragons or reptiles in general?

Also the reason I took him into the vet is because Rex doesn't have any energy and he just sleeps all day. His lighting is correct and he has UVB and UVA and his diet is in check.

It's common for them to have low levels in their systems. They are able to manage it on their own if they are healthy so action doesn't always need to be taken. Just keep things as sanitary as you can.

At 3 years old he may be going through a slowdown phase or brumation. Just keep an eye on his weight. They are able to brumate for quite a while without losing a significant amount of weight. Offer him some water via drops on his nose to ensure he stays hydrated but otherwise I'd let him do his thing if he's healthy. Some sleep for months and some just slow down a bit for a little while and everything in between.
