Hello!
Info: Her basking spot is right around 100 and cool side is 85. We use the Reptisun 10.0 inside the tank. She is turning 3 this Nov. She is 17 inches long. She is in a 40 gallon tank on tile substrate.
Its been a long time since I posted here. Fury is currently on a hunger strike. She did this last summer and it turns out she had strongyloid and another parasite. Took 2 rounds of meds to clear. Then she returned to her hungry happy self. Early in the summer she quit eating again. Had strongyloid's again and after the meds her fecal was clear...I told the vet she still isn't eating tho! He said she had "mites in her stool but they are from the bugs she eats and its fine." Really???? Theres no mites on her body anywhere so I guess they are just in her stool. They don't need to be treated? She just lays in her cave all day. My daughter will get her out after school, offer food (she always has salad available each morning but she doesn't eat it) and Fury will walk around for a bit and then go hid. She poops maybe once every 1.5wks. She eats 3-4 roaches or hormworms every 4-5 days. She is slowly losing weight. Vet gave us critical care to "jump start her appetite". This is fine, I'll stringe feed but whats her problem?? She seems to get bored with her food and will refuse to eat whatever offered. She's done this with crickets, superworms, dubias and now hormworms.
Also of note: we are going through her basking light bulbs 2-3 a month! They keep burning out. Petsmart will exchange them every time but I am on my 5th one now. I have switched the hood out to a new one and switched from Zoo Med 75w to the Nat Geo 75w and it still burned out.
One thing the vet said as possible reason for not eating is that my daughter started back to school and now Fury is alone all day. We moved to a new house in June. She slowed down her eating before the move. This has been an ongoing issue all summer! I get that she wont eat due to her parasites and may have relocation stress but shouldn't she be eating by now? We moved almost 4 mons again and school started 1 month ago.
HELP please! Her basking spot is right around 100 and cool side is 85. We use the Reptisun 10.0 inside the tank. She is turning 3 this Nov. She is 17 inches long. She is in a 40 gallon tank on tile substrate.
