Phoenix Worms Questions

Whats the best way to house them?
What do they eat?
I also want to know, if i order a bulk order to split with a friend (would be 500 each) would any turn to flies somehow? I really would not want that haha.
Would the worms die relatively slowly?
If they are dead, is it unsafe to feed the dragon that specific worm? (I know dead crickets and such are usually not good, so i veer away from feeding them)

And any other things I need to know about Phoenix worms, or if there is a worm that would be much better for the beardie, what is it? Feel free to suggest other worms and tell me what I can do to care for/preserve their life to prolong long them. I just want the best worms for him, and I want them to last as long as possible without becoming a fly.

I keep BSFL (Phoenix Worms) in the substrate and container they arrive in. They do well at 50-60 degrees but room temp is fine. They are quite small so they are eaten pretty quickly. Out of an order of 200 I estimate about 75 or so were eaten today. If they do wind up as moths, you can feed the moths too. I haven't seen that though. If they appear to be dead, I don't offer them as food.

I like to offer Phoenix Worms as a supplement to a varied diet. I also like silk worms when I can get them (they are seasonal). The Phoenix Worms are high in calcium so they don't need calcium supplement powder. They're a pretty straightforward feeder to use, except they're very small so you'll go through a lot of them.

Would you say 500 is good for a baby beardie and a beardie of about a year and half? It would be 500 each. And by good I mean, like not many would die and would they be fresh long enough for them to scarf them down? Both beardies have a good healthy appetite.

I'd imagine 500 would get eaten long before they die off. I had a cup of 200 arrive yesterday and my 1 year old has gone through probably half of them already. If you keep them at cool room temp the worms should last at least a few weeks.

That sounds perfect! Any recommendations on where is best to bulk order them? Was looking into http://www.phoenixworm.com

But I don't know if anyone has had problems with them or anything, or if you just have somewhere you trust more.

That's the official site to get the Phoenix Worms which is a brand name for black soldier fly larvae. It's a reliable source for them.

Cooper, you mean if they turn in to flies [ not moths ] ? :) They'd be harder to catch but the dragons would eat them, too.

Yes, that. I've never seen them turn into anything but poop. Darwin just polished off a 200 pack in two days. (burp)

Wow, that's crazy! Is breeding them relatively easy or would it be a somewhat hard task to manage? Maybe I should look into it.

I get mine from http://www.symtonbsf.com too. I order 2000 large at a time for $32.99 shipped. Never have a problem with any of them turning into flies. They do get dark, but get eaten long before any start to pupate. Store at 50-60 degrees and they will be fine.

I like to use these as a staple because I hate having to deal with crickets, but I do feed other insects too, to mix things up a bit.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
Mirage entered brumation yesterday, I'm gonna miss hanging out with my little guy.
