Ok so I have made the move to phoenix worms but....

They are tiny. Even the large ones. I am getting them from Rainbow Mealworms.com but also prior from Phoenix company itself. All the same. She goes through them like nothing! ANd it ain't cheap - lol. But now she is refusing to eat greens. I mean full out .....turns her head and pics the worms right out of the salad and leaves all greens- princess that she is!

So am I getting bum worms or are they truly that small. Like a cm maybe- not even.

My hang ups are-
I will not bread them myself
I do not keep any other animals except my dogs and Lizzie- that means no cricket colonies , roaches or worms...:(

I'm screwed eh?

ALso about calciworms---everytime and I mean EVERY time I open up these containers at Petco...any petco....they stink. REALLY STINK. AS in rotten. The ones I order have NO odor so I am reluctant to get calciworms which admittedly, would be simpler.

thanks

The Phoenix Worms are very small, that's their downside. They are still a very good staple. You could try supplementing them with silk worms or butter worms perhaps. Maybe some horn worms as a treat.

They are all very small - they become very small flies. I'm guessing the petco ones either have dead bugs in the cups or the bedding is more noxious. They are composter bugs, they like nice decomposing food. :puke: I've never had good luck buying feeders from pet stores. The ones I get online or at the reptile show are so much healthier.

Without keeping a colony of some size it will be challenging to keep the feeder costs down. What is your limit for "keeping other animals?"

Thank you guys,

I have thought of hornworms or silk worms...my problem is...and don't laugh please....they look so much like fuzzy cute caterpillars and I kind of like them LOL. Pathetic. I am a pathetic reptile owner.

I purchased 400 phoenix worms. We will see how long they last.

I've started breeding silkworms - they are pretty much 100% adorable at all times. In addition to being great feeders, they are super interesting (if you can get into bugs) and rearing them has been really fun. The cuteness only goes up though once you pay attention to details.

There is an article on this site, on the home page right now under recent articles which discusses how to fatten up phoenix worms. The instructions are great and they have pictures of how big they can get.

Phoenix worms are not that small. They are from 18 to 22 mm. long and 6 mm. wide. The Phenix worms we will be selling will be in that size range. Regards, Barry.

my little guy loved phoenix worms! hes pretty small so im feeding him the medium size worms. but hes growing so soon ill have to move to the large... they are expensive which sucks cause they go sooooo fast! he can do like 90 in a day if i let him. and each cup has 100 in them. i saw calci worms at the store and know they are the same worms, just they are sold in a different packing solution. it stinks really bad. my little guy wont eat them! and he LOVES phoenix worms. he smells them and just walks away. i dont really blame him. it took me an entire day of soaking his food bowl to get that nasty rotten vinegar smell out of it. but my girlfriend and i are like you and refuse to grow anything in our house. haha.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
