Petsmart

PWasOkay, im sure not alot of you live in colorado, but its about petsmart and those are everywhere. So two days ago, me and my mom went to the petsmart in longmont, to buy my turtle a uvb bulb. (our normal store was out) so naturally we went to go see the reptiles for sale (i know you NEVER should, but...) So they had these leopard geckos in a 2.5 gallon tank with bright lights on, and NO hide... They were miserable. They had right below that one little baby beardie, his stress marks were really dark, he was laying there all lethargic and they had like 25 crickets crawling around on him. He had NO uvb bulbs, only a infrared bulb in the middle of theDAY. But nocturnal geckos had one! It was like 100° in the entire cage, and he was not happy. like the petsmart in superior treats their animals really
good (especially compared to the one in superior) maybe like they just take better care of them in the smaller stores, cause the really big ones are worse. I wish we would have just walked out of there, but we're weak, my mom loves birds, and her birthday is sunday. So we walked out of there spending $100 on a new birdie setup, and a.betta fush setu

i TRY my hardest not to look at the reptiles at the pet stores but I always give in and leave very unhappy.

Yeah ... the longmont petsmart us NOT the best... they just bought still beardies again

It's not so much the size of the store or the location as it is the proper training of the employees and wether or not the employees/management care. Most of them are just there for a pay check, they don't care enough about their jobs to make sure they are doing it properly. I've even seen a case where an employee wanted to do more and researched the proper care for many of the animals in the store but the owner/manager said that it would cost too much money to do what the employee wanted. So my friend quit her job there and got one at another pet store where they actually gave her total control over their reptile section, which usually has 30 to 50 snakes, and probably 30 to 50 different lizards of mixed species at any given time. You could always try talking to the managers in a store where you find poorly cared for animals, maybe even print off a proper care sheet and bring it with you, the worst they can do is throw you out of the store. :lol:

Haha i should so do that, i have to go buy a new day bulb after i bring my baby to the vet again. My stupid phone is stuck thinking I'm typing wrong, so us equals is, and bulb is building. *EYEROLL*

not all of it is able to be controlled at the store level, some of it the stores CANT change due to CORPORATE! though i do have to agree that some of it is that the employees don't care in some stores, i like the ones that admit if they don't know the answer and either find someone who does and listen in or try and find the answer out. I love my loveland Store, all the associates are very knowledgeable and if they don't know the answer they will find someone who does.

Most petsmarts i visit are knowledgable, but the one in longmont is awful. I've actually had to quite visiting their store, it was too aweful.
