Petco (sad sick baby beardie) pic

This poor lil guy has been hanging on for a week and a half i have told every employee and manager at petco and NO ONE CARES! i suggested they give it to me so it can live what days it has left being loved! but no they said i could buy it for $44. The manager even says yes we did notice he's lost weight, but we think its cause he's GROWING!!!!!! she says the others in cage are his siblings and are 3x his size! his eyes are runny and 1 had a yellow discharge. :dontknow: Poor guy! Sorry for the poor pic quality all i had was my cell phone! im sure u can tell which one im talking about!

Its sad how some of the petco's are just behind in time and knowledge. Atleast they have them on repticarpet and not sand like most places.

Poor little guy.

Wish petstores had to have inspections, like restaurants - they all claim to have their animals checked by a vet (well, Petsmart does, no Petcos here, so not sure about them), but then stuff like this happens, and I seriously doubt that the vet is doing much (or, as the case may be, is able to do much - wouldn't surprise me if their hands are as tied as the caring employees' when it comes to actually helping out the animals). If only there was some accountability involved here... At upper management/corporate level! If the CEOs were going to lose their fat paychecks and bonuses if animals in their stores were sick, bet things would clean up quickly.

I wish there was more I could do on a widescale level. Even at my own store, there's only so much I can do. Thankfully, though, our reptiles are seen by the same reptile vet I take Yoshi too, so I know they have someone well-educated checking them out.

That really upsets me I would have stole the beardie to be honest.
At our petstore I let out all the dogs from their cages and let them run free in the mall.
The manager got pissed and asked why I said because how can you house 3 dogs to one small cage and put a puppy in with a kitten.
But also i flashed my BCSPCA badge and he backed off.
I told him that if he doesnt clean his act up I would be back to take all his dogs away.
Well since the new laws have come in to effect pet stores can no longer have puppies or kittens.
I also have a friend now that works with the reptiles and they are the best I have seen. I go in to check all the time.

But this pic really upsets me. I feel sad for the little beardie now I want to come from Canada to get it

We also have Raps
Richmond Animal Protection Services and alot of no kill shelters . We have a law passed here that no animals can be killed unless they are extremely sick dangerous for example can not be retrained from attacking others or biting.

Its a great Society to belong to

At least there are some groups here in the States that have similar philosophies - like Best Friends, that took in Michael Vick's pits and rehabilitated them. Gives me some hope that maybe we'll get there one day...!

Then again, I live in the state where they're still struggling to make willful cruelty to pets a felony, rather than a misdemeanor. *sigh*

I would love to visit Best Friends isnt that in AZ in the desert? I always wanted to go there and help out for a month.

Next time you go in(and I hope you do), ask for the most senior manager in charge.

Politely explain your position; That you've been coming in for weeks, seeing this thing get worse and worse. Point out the obvious health problems that need to be addressed let them know that you only want to save an animal from what seems to be certain death.

If the managers shrugs you off or continues to make excuses, I would ask to speak to their manager, or for their manager's number.

If they are unwilling to give you that information, then I wold politely warn them that they will be recieving a call from their "animal care coordinator". Record the names of all employees who gave you trouble and include them in a well-written(polite) complaint letter.

Trust me; Everyone has a boss, and nobody likes it when an angry customer goes over their heads and complains directly to their boss... If you aren't getting what you need from that person, move up the ladder to his boss.

You might end up speaking to some district branch manager who has 16 stores under his supervision; Imagine the bad day that incompetent petstore manager will be having when they get chewed out because they let too many things slide, and some angry customer called his boss's boss's boss over in Michigan... Ooohoohooh.... The trickle-down effect can be a great tool when you come up against a roadblock in the form of a troublesome employee...
