I was in there today to buy some dog food and I was just browsing their reptile area and their beardies are miserable :( . They dont have a basking spot, its overcrowdded, its cold (their crappy stick on thermometer reads below 70) which it may be even colder since the stick on's are useless. All the little guys are huddled in the corner eyes half open just trying to stay warm. It makes me so sad to see that. And I live in Michigan too so it's only going to get colder. All they have is a single uvb tube light running acorss the top..which is useless since they cant even get close to it. Ugh!

I've said things to the managers several times but they dont listen. Just makes me so frustrated and mad. If they cant take care of them properly dont carry them!

yea and plus they are too small, i was in petco and see a lone dead looking baby in the same cage situation you describe. i hear it is sandfire dragon ranch that sells to these chains , and they know theyre too small an in bad conditions.

The Petco I go to is actually really good about their reptiles. They generally carry smaller ones (two months old or so) but almost never have more than three in a tank at a given time, granted, the tank is pretty small. They sell fairly quickly, too. They have a good basking spot, the cage is fairly clean and the temp is usually in the upper 90s. They're good about handling the lizards if they happen to not sell (they currently have a 9 month old or so that they've had for a long while) and separate out animals if there are problems.

I agree, it's the store that is either good or bad. The petsmart I go to has their baby beardies on reptile carpet. Granted they usually need to clean the poop off it and the tank is really small but they all look fairly healthy.

Yeah, the one Petco had only uvb light and the gauge thermometer was reading at mid 70
but another Petco had proper setup eventough the cage was pretty small.
I guess it's all depends on the employees.

The Petco that I go to is getting better at least the girl who works there actually owns 2 beardies so she knows what they need and even handles them, also I told her to come to this site and show it top her boss so maybe we can work our way in. and get proper care.

Being a person who works in a chain Petstore, your best bet to get things changed is to contact the corporate headquarters. I have tried to get changes implemented for the health and well being of the Beardies and other reps, but get told that it is not corp approved.

So, contact the corp headquarters and let them know that they need to make changes!!!! Please! I need help to get the babies the best care possible!

i am also unhappy with the petco chain in regards to beardies, i bought two babies last september, and right from the getgo something was off about them.....they never ate what they should have or in good quantities, it did take me about a week or so to get the set up perfect, a lot of which is thanks to this website!! but come to find out a few months later they had parasites....and i'm not an expert in any sense of the word, so i'm not sure how they got them all i know is they were apparently not in good health from the day i brought them home, of course when i figured out what it was i tried several different supplements and medicines but nothing seemed to work, they just went too long with out being able to eat, and sadly they both passed about a month ago.....
i fell in love with the little guys though so we decided to try again with another, and i found a beautiful girl who was a little older from a mom and pop store around here in dallas....complete 180 as far as health and happiness, very sad about adrian and izzy not making it, but the only good thing out of the ordeal was that i learned a valuable lesson in return, do not trust pets from major chains......as far as i'm concerned at least

Yeah both the Petco and Petsmart here suck, they don't take care of their beardies, thus I don't shop there anymore. The Pet Supplies Plus however, is MUCH better. A decent sized (probably 10 gallons) enclosure with repti-carpet, and a nice big flat stone with an actual heat lamp above it and a UV light. The beardies always looked really good, but they haven't had any in awhile...

However I did go to a Pet Supplies Plus in a different city and they had some of their lizards on this horrid substrate that looked like a combination of powdered glass and black sand...the beardie was lethargic and barely opening his eyes, very dark in color. Also their ball pythons were climbing over each other to get into their water dish because they were covered in mites :angry5: When I told one of the workers about it he didn't seem like he really cared...

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
