Petco....I am SO ANGRY!*update..Dec 3rd*

I need to just STAY AWAY from Pet stores!!! I went into petco yesterday and I peeked at the beardies. They had one tiny baby. And three big guys..probably about 10 months old or so. The big guys looked fat and kinda ok..except they looked to have jaw rot. I held the big guys and they were ICE cold!!!! The viv they are in is probably 36 inches tall...the lights are not right and it's only 85...at the TOP..about 2 inches from the lights...grrrrrr.
But what ticked me off even more is the baby that..upon many questions I learn that it has been there about a month..they can barely get it to eat 2 crickets a day..and it hasn't grow since they got it!

So I go home angry and depressed..knowing that little guy is gonna die. I talk to Rich (my fiance) about it and he says we can go back and talk to them. Well we did and I talked to THREE managers..tried to convince them to just let me take it home before it DIES..I only had $100 and I was going to be spending that on lights and stuff...they wouldn't budge. I LET THEM HAVE IT..told them that they need to make themselves more knowledgable about the animals they keep so they will stop killing them!!! The 3rd manager I talked to...I convinced him that she is NOT JUST TINY..She's SICK. So he in a huffy ahole way..tells an associate to get him a container so he can take her in the back...RICH WENT OFF ON THE GUY... said the dragon needed to be taken care of and they are going to KILL IT. THe manager said he's be bringing her to the vet in the morning...bullcrap!

We ended up walking out of there pretty upset...not saving the baby...told them we would be following up with the vet they use..and also the 3 big guys that were ice cold. We are calling our vet in the morning to get the number to animal protection...

I Pulled out my camera to show the manager a pic of MY PADAME..what a HEALTHY dragon should look like and he was like "YOU can NOT take pictures in the store..." Why?? covering their a**....little did he know..I ALREADY DID! Here's the poor baby at petco

She was so week she didn't want to lift her head..and mostly just kept her eyes shut. I held her and she was so fragile and frail But in the warmth of y hand she perked up a little.

I'm kicking myself..I should have just walked in there and BOUGHT her for the $60...after talking to all three managers...the last guiy was such a jerk..I asked him..can I just BUY HER AND TAKE HER HOME?!? ANd he snipped at me and siad NO..she's going to be taken to the vet...

Hey Emily, it's Sonja. I'm so sad about that baby, we actually saw it there the other day too. The baby looks only a few weeks old, it's really tiny. And the big beardies are nowhere near their light, they're so not getting the UVA/UVB rays they need. They're a little skinny, but they looked way better than that poor baby. You really do have to stay out of those stores, there's not too much good to be seen there and you just get your heart broken for the poor babies. I think those chain stores need to hire specialists for the different departments so that the animals are taken care of correctly. Yeah, I don't know that the baby will make it

I hate pet stores! I usually don't go in them! But we had to get some crickets and we were in Clifton Park. We usually go to the Country living store here in town..wich is really great..or so I thought I went in there today to get crickets and to check up on your beardies...they are not getting thier proper lighting and they are on WOOD CHIPS..small enough to eat They are down to 5..wich might mean they sold one but I doubt it since they just got them in..and still dont have a sticker or price tag on their tank there are 3 that looked okay..one that was hiding under the "bone thing"..looking unhappy and the other one looked paralyzed..probably impacted from the wood chips There are still many pieces of "shedding" from the snake that was in that "tank" before..so they have OBVIOUSLY not even cleaned or changed the substrate....and the water bowl is nasty..I dont think they cleaned it since the snake was in there

I am so sorry I refered you to those guys...Rich pulled me away from the tank today because I was almost in tears...I'm crying as I type this..I am so sorry Sonya Rich told me not to stop back in there for awhile...but I know me...and my heart is breaking because I SENT you guys there..and I know your babies are NOT well

petco def. sucks. A friend bought a new baby and after i told them what all they needed they just gave it to me because it was too exspencive. So i have this little guy and he was doing so bad i took him back and they took him to the vet. (turns out the vet they use i work at) so but i talked to the vet and he was badly impacted. We tried olive oil, bathed twice a day, applesauce. So after he was looking just miserable the vet decided to euthinize. So i went back to petco and got another. These guys are almost 9 inches long. One of them was really skinny, and the others were ok. So i grabbed the one that tried to bite just because i knew he was alert. Ate right when i brought him home!

I know how you must feel. My 9 year old daughter and I had almost the exact same discusion with the manager at a petsmart. Except the little beardie was dead already, I'm pretty sure. The same bulloney, right down to the vet was called. I offered to buy it, too. when they said it was fine & eating waxworms in the back. When I pushed about how dehydrated it looked she said it was soaking in warm gatorade! Awful, isn't it? Make sure to sign the petition!

Situations like those make me want to cry. I just want to point something out and maybe, give you guys out there a little hope. I work in a petstore myself (in Canada) and I signed the petition against PetCo. They recently opened a store in my hometown unfortunately. Anyways, at the petstore where I work, it's a family-run buisness who only deals with known breeders. The guy who is responsible for the reptile department, has a degree in biology. Needless to say, our baby beardies are gorgeous. =) The girls in cats and dogs all have degrees (the degree below vet) in animal care. I am very proud to work where I do and I try and educate as much people as I can about how we treat our animals compared to other petstores. I often hear stories about people buying stuff (animals, feeders, etc.) at other petstores and they always come back to ours. All this to say, there is still hope, there are still people out there who care and are in the right line of buisness.

awwww thats soooo sad... something like that happened with me and a sav moniter that me and my bf had saved he was on sale 50% off and we had him least than 5 months and he started to show signs of MBD and i took him to the vet and explained how they had him in a small a** cage and everything and the vet said they were the cause of it. sadly he is no longer with us but I HATE PETCO AND WILL NEVER BUY ANYTHING FROM THERE AGAIN!!!

Junebug that is awful!Sadly it is more the norm then the occasional incident when it comes to large chains taking care of their animals.If you get the chance can you PM me all the pics you took?

Those three pics above are what I have. I'm going tomorrow to check up...ask questions and visit the three "cold" guys. I'm also calling the vet that they supposedly use!

They certainly looked hungry! I'm not sure what a "healthy snake" looks like..as I am terrified of snakes...I was a bit anxious looking in on the baby beardie with the two snakes right next to me...uggghhh...they give me the creeps :?

Just wanted to give you all an update. I went in and held the "big guys" today...cold as ice

I asked about the little one and a guy (the dog guy) went in the back to see if it was there. He said it is..and it's in isolation. I'm calling the vets here in a sec to see if they brought her in yet. Then I'm calling the store! If she's still there and alive I'm going to try to talk them..force them into letting me take her.
