PetCo abuse.

Am I the only person who's local store especially abuses reptiles? I went there last night to check on the bearded dragons and to buy some food, and I looked at the beardies. They were all translucent silks. Well, all of them were black from stress and none had their eyes open. There were also at least 30 in the tank at once, which it's like a 10 gallon tank. Then I saw two which were wedged in between the log and the screen lid, and sadly, they were both dead. The temps were at 80 possibly (dial thermometer) and then they had shed skin everywhere, and hadn't been cleaned in days. Something needs to be done. If you have a similar story, post it here.

That's so awful. Those poor babies, sigh. I hate that pet shops can't be bothered to properly care for the animals that they sell to people.

Thankfully on my visits to Petco or Petsmart, most of the enclosures are pretty clean and not overcrowded. But it is sad to see others kept in bad conditions.

I do have one good thing to say about PetSmart. They treat their animals VERY nicely, and that's where I got Freddie from. All of the ones in there at the time were healthy, and I got Freddie because he had personality, and he was the one who danced on the glass everytime only I walked by. They treat their pets very nicely, and use digital thermometers plus UVB and heat. All of them are very, very hyper except for the one runt. :( But overall, PetCo really abuses the animals here.

When I took my girl to the vet I seen a few people who work for both Petco and Petsmart ( Modesto, Ca) bringing animals in there, so I have to say, some may not take the best care and I have seen a lot of pet stores who don't, but for those stores that used the vet I do I am glad. Best vet for beardies, besides he saved my girl's life.

The two Petcos in my area treat their animals well. It's the local PetSmart that treats the reptiles poorly. They're in a really small tank, maybe five gallons, with food way too big for them to eat.

This is the problem with pet stores. Its so hard to enforce a policy where animal abuse is unaccepted. Here, the petco is really great, its the petsmart that is the problem. It really depends on the individual pet store i think. However, I have been to some pretty ghetto pet shops. One that I was at, they were selling an adult red leatherback for $600, he had an awesome personality and I really wanted to buy him to get him out of that awful place. He had a black-beard, was very dark, and constantly clawing at the cage, wanting to get out. Crickets were crawling everywhere in the cage, around 20. This was around a 35 gallon terrarium. I actually talked to the guy getting the reptiles out for a bit and he actually admitted the only reason he took the job was to get a discount on mice for his snakes. It was obviously not a dedicated pet store, and the main reason I didn't buy anything from them is so I wouldn't promote them. They don't deserve my money. The other reason, every reptile was insanely overpriced.

I lied. There are three Petco's around me and one is in a ghetto town and a few of the anoles had MBD. They didn't have beardies in.

Yeah, it's just sad to see all of the abuse.

I would call their HQ and tell them which store you saw that at. The beardies at Petco's by me look great. Same for Petsmart and Pet Supplies Plus. You can also call your local Human Society.

I emailed them. They said they contacted the manager and they said "They are in PERFECT! living order." I am not exactly old enough to do anything, but that.

Now, from where I sent them an e-mail, they are ringing my phone off the hook. I am REALLY sick of this. I said only to contact me by email.

You sure they were Trans Silkbacks? When Beardys are very young they all look very smooth. I just never seen Petco sell that many Trans Silkbacks before, I actually never seen Petco sell Silkbacks because they require more care then a normal or leatherback. But if they indeed are, I wish I lived there for I can buy one lol

I just set Swordtail's timer for his bath and paused it so I could actually fill his soaking bowl up and he crawled over my phone and canceled the timer 🤣
Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
