As some of you know, last Saturday, I lost one of my rabbits. While painful, it was kind of expected, as she was getting on in years.

Sooo... The husband decided to cheer me up with a shopping trip. Of course, his real reason was he wanted to check out how much starting up a saltwater fish tank would be. We went to 3 different stores, horrible selection and way too expensive. By the last store, I was sick of listening about tanks, filters, etc. Then, he calls me over from looking at the baby beardies, to check out "this real neat dragon" he had seen. Well, me being me, I had to ask if I could hold him. As soon as I had him on my shoulder, I knew I wanted him.

While I was falling in love, the salesclerk was telling us his story. He had been brought in about 2 weeks before by a couple who had found him abandoned in their new apartment. As the place had been empty since the end of April, he had been without food, heat or lights for 3 months! I immediately turned the ultimate wifely weapon on... Yes, I used the Puppydog Eyes!!

The poor man is still unable to figure out how he went for a fish tank and ended up with a dragon!

My still unnamed boy is a veggie-destroying, cricket-killing, super pooping machine. He is also an Eco-Terrorist, capable of clearing the room with his stink bombs on a daily basis.

OMG! Salad!

Hi Frances!

:love5: :love5: :love5: :love5: :love5: I love it when the right dragon and the right person come together at the right time!!!!! :laughing6: Two questions, one, does your new sweetie have a name yet, and question two, are you certain of the sex yet? For some reason, I see a she, even though you say he. I don't any have actual evidence, just a look in the eye! With my Thorn, LG, Rodney/Rhoda and a few others I have known, there have been a few surprises along the way!  I am quite ready to be wrong, too! :laughing6:

Awww, he's adorable! I'm soo glad you found him. I wonder how someone could just leave a beardie alone like that with no food or water. I guess it's better that way then leaving him outside for any creature to attack (that has happened, also).

A lot of credit for his well being and good health goes to the salesclerk at La Grande Menagerie. Already having 2 beardies of her own, as well as being a member here ( sorry I forgot her username), she knew how to make sure he bounced back from his ordeal. She also made sure we got the right lighting. Not allowed to discourage buyers from the compact coil, etc., she simply doesn't mention them unless directly asked. Now I know why the reptiles at that store were always so much bigger and healthier than the other pet stores in town.

My new guy has finally been named! Took quite awhile to try out different names and nothing worked. Then, on Monday morning, during his runaround, he discovered the Mt. Kilimanjaro of recycling in the corner of the kitchen. It took me about 20 minutes of frantically searching to find him, perched on top of the pile, front feet on a large empty can, looking very pleased with himself. Which is when I said "Why, you little OSCAR!"

Oscar is a cutie, and, hopefully, NOT a grouch! It looks like the transition from abandonment :angry5: to a home with you :love5: was smooth, and how lucky that the clerk is a member here! :notworthy: He really looks happy in his new set up! :laughing6:

The name Oscar is only partially due to the Sesame Street character, it's also be cause he's such a slob. He reminded me of Walter Matthow (spelling is wrong, but that's how it's pronounced) from the Odd Couple! I'm currently saving up to take him to the vet's for a fecal test as I suspect from the runny, noxious poops, he is carrying a load of parasites.

Now that you mention it, I think I have heard somewhere that Oscar from The Odd Couple was the inspiration for Oscar the Grouch. :laughing6: You might try Oscar on phoenix worms as a feeder. I have heard that they have some kinda of anti-parasitic effect and it may be true. When I was using them regularly, with other worms (silk, horn and super) and no crickets for feeders, my fecal tests were all coming back clean.

It's been a couple of weeks since the last update of Oscar. How is he doing? Have you found anything out about his parasite issue?

Updates on my crazy boy will now be posted in Beardie Tales, as both he and Putzy have been keeping me sane by driving me nuts! :banghead:  Watch for "The Odd Couple of Sandhill"

And if you're in the mood to roll your eyes at a middle-aged pity party, I have a reality tv show happening in OT.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
