We had the perfect new year's eve party tonight. Good friends, good food, good movies, and good games. My little girl Tatty was scratching around and I thought her time might be close so I put her in her lay box tonight. I told all of our guests she might lay eggs tonight but it might also be a false alarm. Very gingerly, throughout the evening, kids and guests would peek in the room at my girl who was furiously digging in her lay box. About 10:50 p.m., one of the kids ran up and said "come down quick, Tatty just laid an egg!" Sure enough she had. I checked every 15 minutes to check her progress and by 11:50 p.m. she had completed her laying and was in the process of tamping the top soil. She laid 18 fertile eggs. Her second clutch of 2008. Kids and adults were fascinated by her behavior and watched me as I carefully removed her eggs to the upstairs incubator. All I can say is "what a perfect night."
