parasites

so i got a bearded dragon from a local petsmart about.. 7ish months ago. she's pretty active when it comes to eating and stuff, she actually kinda runs around like crazy right before i give her crickets, she kinda knows what the cricket "cup" means anyways i keep reading things about parasites being in bearded dragons almost 100% of the time if you buy from a petshop. i never was told this so i had no idea that this could be an issue. she seams fine and acting normal but at times her poo is runny, but its mostly when she eats more greens than crickets, anyways i was wondering when or what age i should take her to a local repti Vet or any suggestions on treating these parasites and such. like i said im not sure she has any, but just to make sure i would like to know. i know she isnt a dog but you generally take them to get de-wormed and stuff like that, so not sure if it works the same or not? with medicine and stuff. im also about to upgrade her tank on the 28th of def, to a 75 gal.

R the poops smelly? How big is she? If she has parasites and is too smslk they may refundable to treat her idk though maybe they can. See I can't handle feeding a baby so I just got 2 two yr old dragons right off the bat.

Hi!

If she's acting normally and has a good appetite then she's probably alright. Are her poops overly smelly, and are they well formed or are they loose (sorry, gross! lol)? If you're concerned even a little it's probably a good idea to get a fecal done with a vet. It usually only costs between $20-$30, and if you call around you might find a vet that will do a fecal without an exam.

ty both very much for the reply uhm yea i found a vet about 10 minutes from my house that i can take a fecal sample too. tho i have to have an exam first. uhm she is acting normal and her poo does smell, tho im not sure if its smells worse or what haha i can't remember how it smelled when i first got her, prolly not good anyways so yea thanks very much. oh and yea its normally kinda loose, tho it depends on what i feed her, when its all crickets or somthing its generally not loose .. or atleast not as much. im not sure if the poo is actually too runny or what, i feed and cage her right...atleast i think i do. has the correct UVB and temp, also using calcium powder on almost everything.

I've never dealt with parasites (*knocks on wood!*), but from what I've heard, when you dragon has parasites you know because the smell is really really terrible. Poop is smelly no matter what, but when they have parasites I've heard it really makes you gag. But it can never hurt to be positive about these kinds of things. I took my Norbert to the vet twice in 5 months because I'm so paranoid, only to be told he's perfectly healthy. :roll:

lol im kinda worried about the vet trip to be honest, Aspen has never bit anyone and is handled regularly... but by my family only.. mostly me. she's fine with anyone holding her but putting her upside down like they do at times is gona make her all kinds of pissed i think lol. and she's scared of the outside for some reason, so im not sure how its gona work...
