Hey there. My bearded dragon hasn't been eating much lately. He's about 6 months old. He'll usually eat crickets in the morning and some mustard greens/squash throughout the day but will usually lay on his cold side of his tank around 4pm and sometimes go to sleep.

Since he started doing this I have switched from a reptisun 10.0 compact uvb bulb and 100W heat lamp to a mercury vapor bulb (national geographic 160W). I switched because somebody suggested it may be not enough uvb and that mercury vapor bulbs were the best option. His temps are 105-110 in his basking spot, 75-80 on the cool side.

I believe it may be some parasites like coccidia or something, so I've ordered reptaid because I've seen lots of people have success with it making they're beardies healthy again. It'll be about a week or so before it gets here so until then i'll just have to hope he's fine.

Another thing however is a yellow stain around his vent. I originially thought it was a urine stain because it did not look nearly as bad as any yellow fungus picture I have looked at, and i've seen pictures of urine stained ones and thats what it looked like.

So the real questions I have are:
1) Do you think reptaid should solve the problems about it being parasites?
2) Do you think it's a urine stain or yellow fungus?

Thanks in advance!

PS: i'm pretty sure his head and back legs are about to shed

You need to get a fecal done to determine if it's parasites and if so what type. Then you can decide best treatment and benchmark the efficacy of the treatment. You can't just guess at the problem I'm afraid, I'm not sure how effective reptaid is. I wouldn't want to take a chance, especially as you need to get to the bottom of the yellow skin with the help of a vet and given your worries over his health the two could well be linked.

Hi. Have you tried washing the stain off? If it does not come off then he may have yellow fungus. He definitely will need a vet for that. Also the mvb you are using is not very good. The power sun is better. If you decide to just get a uvb again. The coil/ compacts are not good for beardies as they do not give off enough uvb. The reptisun 10.0 Tube or Arcadia tube are the best.

I just set Swordtail's timer for his bath and paused it so I could actually fill his soaking bowl up and he crawled over my phone and canceled the timer 🤣
Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
