Overfeeding Worms or Crickets?

Hey my new friends!

First I'd like to say thank you for all the warm welcomes - I greatly appreciate it!

My two new beardies, Trixie and Dixie (about 9 weeks now) LOVE their crickets. They haven't really taken to the Reptiworms yet. BUT YESTERDAY...

I hadn't fed them (except for their veggies) nearly all day (bad mommy) and put some small superworms in with the reptiworms - and HOO BOY did they chow down! Trixie more than Dixie.

Is it possible to overfeed them? Will they stop when they're full or are those wiggly things just too good to pass up??

Thanks in advance for all your help. They're VERY happy little girls!

All the best,
Roxanne

Yes a bearded dragon will stop when they are full, I wouldn't feed superworms or meal worms to a baby beardie of that age to big of a chance of impaction (DEADLY) . They should take to the reptiworms soon just keep offering them Reptiworms are great and Hi in calcium. 2 week old crickets dusted with calcium powder should be fine for now. You could also try small Dubia Nymphs, Dragons go crazy for these to. Mine stopped eating crickets completely I mean snubbed his nose at them. Only wanted his roaches. I guess he's just a roach eatin kind of guy :p

Thanks for all the guidance!

I am taking your advice on the superworms (but just know that they are not more than 1" long and about 1/16th" round). I'll keep putting the ReptiWorms in front of them along with the crickets.

Thanks everyone!

Are they eating their salads good? Try putting the grubs on the salads and maybe they'll take to them!

it's not the size of the super worms that is bother some. They have a hard like shell to them like mealworms do. That shell can cause impaction for a baby. Hornworms, silkworms, Reptiworms are good soft feeder worms for babies just size accurately.

Hi definitions, and everyone else :) I just wanted some clarification please. I thought mealworms were the baddies and superworms the goodies, assuming your beardie is big enough of course. I thought that mealworms were more shell than meat and supers were better. Did I get it wrong?

Or are you just meaning where babies are concerned?

lets just put it like this.. if you are going to feed worms to a baby beardie you should feed a soft bodied worm to them like the ones I mentioned above. It's your beardie you do what you like. Maybe someone else has more information to give you about mealworms and super worms. I my self stay away from those worms unless I have an adult beardie. Maybe you should look into starting a dubia colony they have a more meat to shell ratio and very healthy feeder for beardies. They love them.

this is correct. mealworms are bad for all dragons and supers are good for any dragon over 16".

Got it. No superworms even.

How long does it take before they gobble up the ReptiWorms?? I know they're very high in calcium, and really want them to enjoy those gooey wiggly delights.

How many does one put in the bowl at a time? Of course I'll continue with the crickets because I don't want them to starve.

Please forgive my "newbiness", but I'm relying on the graciousness of your collective wisdom.

I would love to give them Phoenix worms...but they don't seem interested. The worms just turn black and die.

My beardies are 2 months old now. When will they be interested in the Phoenix worms?? Tx!

Hmm Anytime now. Try dropping them infront of them so they see it fall, and if they dont go for it then try gently flicking it around infront of them. You can try it on a darker surface so the white worms will be easier visible.

I just set Swordtail's timer for his bath and paused it so I could actually fill his soaking bowl up and he crawled over my phone and canceled the timer 🤣
Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
