Hello all!
I've had an account here a few years ago I stopped using due to horrible internet access at the time, but now I've decided to make a new one to ask this question.
I have a 3 year old male Bearded Dragon in perfect health (aside from a hip issue, but its all healed up and he's fine) he's just extremely fat xD! He's always been overweight but very healthy. I took him to the vet for a check up early last year and he told me my lizard was way way to fat and needed to go on a diet of vegetables. I had always read that dragons his age should eat about 80% plant matter but he'd always been picky...after a long while I finally got him to eat leafy greens, so I had hoped that would have gotten his weight to go down some.. But in fact, its only gotten worse x_x.. He's gigantic, and what worry's me is he eats really fast and then stops and starts panting for awhile, then going at it again (sometimes he's seriously eaten 2 dinner plates of salad a day, along with occasional snacking)
His diet consists of Calard Greens, Bok Choy, Kale, Turnip Greens, Mustered Greens, chopped carrot, Bell Pepper (green, red, and yellow), Squash, Raspberrys, BlackBerrys, StrawBerrys, San Francisco Bay Instant Dragon Food, Green Grapes, Sweet Potato Baby food, Sweet potato, Apple, Sweet Peas, Dandie Lions (whenever I find good ones ) and once a month or 2 about 12 dusted crickets or a few super worms (I've pretty much cut out super worms though)
He actually snores at night and wheezes sometimes when he runs to fast. During the summer I take him outside to walk around and get exercise, but here in the American mid-west its been a long winter :C
He has currently exotarra UVB and basking bulbs over him in a nice big tank (though I plan to get a bigger one soon, while I'm at it, does anyone know any good places to get custom tanks?)
I use clean towels for bedding (always am making sure there are no strands he can get caught on)
Anyways my question was should I be concern? He's eating healthy but still overweight, other then that he's perfectly fine. Should I just wait till the summer when I can give him walks outside or is the snoreing/wheezing/panting serious and should I get him straight to the vet?
One theory my family had was buy a girl dragon and he'll use up more energy reserve XD! I just don't want to deal with all the babies x__x...I feel bad though, sometimes he sits by his reflection for a long time, could be be lonely? Or is that just silly?
..He's incredibly tame to, when I take him outside with me he'll even come running to his name x)!
here's his picture.
