Outraged by this person

Hey guys, after I posted my Rage Comic about my beardie Bandit, this person criticizes me and my reptile. He tells how his sister's lizard got staph and salmonella, and how it spread disease. Then, he unleashes it on me saying how I probably have disease from my lizard. The way he puts it, all lizards have salmonella and staph. He then says how lizards shouldn't be handled the way we do and are always spreading disease. He tells me all these things without knowing how I even take care of mine. He doesn't know how I SCRUB his tank every month, BATHE him head to tail, and how I wash my hands after I handle him EVERY TIME. That guy is a little too sensitive about the issue, I have a feeling he is a bit of a germaphobe. I hope he doesn't have cats, cause by his logic there would be germs all over his place from them leaving the litterbox!

Yeah, you're probably right. I just don't like how he insulted me about my pet.

I would probably be angry because of his assumption of my lax husbandry, but there is a chance with his experience as he perceives it, he is hyper vigilant about staph infections.

I don't mean to downplay his experience with his dad and grandmother, I think it is awful what happened. But he's obviously sensitive about the issue when he has no problem stating that his sister probably killed his grandmother by infecting her. Although, I haven't really heard of getting a staph infection from a reptile. But you could almost argue based on his story, that it was possible the father infected his grandmother and his sister since she didn't show any signs until AFTER the grandmother passed. I think that when you are hurt emotionally, it's sometimes easier to find a "cause and effect" because it can be too hard to deal with an unknown.

But to speak to someone the way he spoke to you, I don't think it was right at all. He assumed all "lizard people" were like his sister and her boyfriend and bad lizard keepers. It's the same as the people who assume all pit bull/GSD/rottweilers/doberman pinscher/whatever other breed people misconstrue at the time - owners keep dogs that will attack and harm/maim/kill other people. It's an unfair generalization, but there are those people who will never be convinced otherwise and you just have to turn and walk away.
