Orange Beard. Thoughts?

Yoshi is fully capable of black-bearding, and has, on occasion, when she felt threatened. (saw my Sav. running around on the floor once through her enclosure door and was NOT happy about it.)

But primarily... Yoshi rocks the ORANGE beard. Not white, no stress marks, pretty vibrant orange. I don't really see much mention anywhere of other colors than black being used to communicate, so I just associate the orange with contentment based on the fact that it's usually "orange-est" when she's eaten/is basking. Does anyone else have a Beardie that does this?

I do. It's not the entire beard, but a band along the bottom border. Sometimes it turns a dark gray, but just along that band. He's not quite 5 months. I've yet to see a black beard at all, and have been wondering if he needs to reach some certain age to do that.

Here's a pic of the gray version. Haven't been able to catch the orange yet, but imagine the same thing in orange.

Lookit that shed! :D

That's how Yoshi was when she was younger, too. As she aged her beard color filled more of her throat. She's just over a year and a month now

My beardie has color in her beard as well. Here's a pic below of her the other day. She was very happy to be out, ruling the house. :)

That so awesome! I just find it so weird that, while we watch for black-bearding as a definite communication of distress, no one mentions any other beard maneuvers/colors in terms of what they're communicating to us.

I equate that orange and white beard to her being happy. She does sometimes get the brown ring around the bottom of her beard, as stated by Mr.Spectrum, mixed with dark orange and some "stress" lines, and I equate that to her being grumpy and unamused at the situation (dogs, not out of her tank, no wormies, etc.) LOL She's never black bearded though, so I am very thankful for that.

That’s how I’ve viewed it as well. Mine hasn’t gone “full” blackbeard, but she came pretty close when she saw my Savannah Monitor stalking the floor under her enclosure. Easily 3 ft of air between the floor and the bottom of Yoshi’s enclosure, and I never let the Sav out unsupervised - so there was no risk... but Yoshi saw, and she fluffed up pretty big and dark

I've also noticed, that the older she became, the more orange she had in her beard. When she was a baby, she was pure white, but now she gets the oranges and yellows in there. Love it though. She's just so colorful. Haha

My beardy gets a mix of orange and grey in the lower part of her beard at around 17-18 months. Sometimes more orange, sometimes more grey, sometimes it'll lack the grey. She tends to be more cream colored w/ orange while outside the tank, and more grey/orange inside.

Hello,

The orange beard is beautiful. :D
There are many ranges of colors but no lines or darkness means happiness. LOL

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
