open mouth

Hello, We have had our dragon Stevie for 7 days now. He is 6 months old and seems like hes doing well. My question is, why does he open his mouth at me when I hold him? He doesn't do it every time, but sometimes he does and it flips me right out. I'm a bit anxious when I pick him up because I'm always afraid hes going to bite me. He has puffed up his beard while in his tank a few times as well. I'm hoping we didn't get an anxious or aggressive guy.

Is it open like in the photo next to my username? (that's just basking) or is it open wide along with bearding and his head tracking your moves? He may just feel a bit defensive/anxious. Go easy around him for a bit but I'd imagine that will wear off soon and he'll calm down.
