Ok, so, I had a Repti Glo 50 watt bulb. I tested the temperature in his basking spot and it said it was only about 89 in his spot. So, I went out and bout a 75 watt bulb and now the temp. is saying it is only 83 in his basking spot. What is going on? with the lighting?

What type of thermometer are you using, is it a digital strip, round gauge, digital with long wire & probe end or a temperature gun? Where exactly are you taking the temps and how long are you waiting before getting the final reading?

how big is your enclosure. For my 40 gallon breeder i use a 60w bulb in one of those glo dome things and using the arm/brace it comes with i can get the globe to the perfect position where the basking spot is about 110

Hi, my enclosure is 40 gallon also. I have a 75 w. bulb and currently my temperature has gotten a bit better. It states it is 95 in his tank. But, still not 100 or 110? How far away is your beardie from the light? maybe that makes a difference.

One of my tanks is a 40 breeder also and I'm only using a 60 watt household light bulb at a distance of about 12 inches.

Hi,

I am using a digital with long wire & probe end and I am waiting about 30 minutes to check the reading and I am putting it right on his basking log where he sits. He is also about 12 inches away from heat source. I am going to try this again, because it is not making sense to me. I appreciate your help.

I'm willing to bet the repti glow you had was their 50w Halogen Neodymium which is why it was actually hotter then a standard 75w bulb.

Watch the types of bulbs you are using:

I personally use a 60w BR30 Halogen in a 40B @ about 16" and my basking temp according to a coral life & acurite are about 110

These newer halogen bulbs are brighter and provide more heat then their standard incandescent counterparts.

I have a 40 gallon breeder and my bulb is 100 watt and the temps range from 95-110. My house also sits at room temperature constantly though. 75

I am using a Zoomed Halogen 75w bulb. It is getting to 95 degrees at 12" from beardie to light. I am assuming this is ok?

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
