Ra right now is in a 38 gallon tank and getting ready to upgrade. He has a Reptiglo 8 Uvb. and a exo terra 100w ceramic heat emitter. i have had these for over a year and they are used. They are also inside of his tank, attached to a wooden cover. After reading and seeing some pictures I feel like it's all wrong. could someone please help me correct mistake!

Hello
Ok so the reptiglo 8.0 is over a year old right? That must be changed asap as the linear UVB's are only good for 4-6 mos so this is the most important thing. As for which uvb although the reptiglo 8.0 wasa decent bulb they no longer make them and the new reptiglo 10 is not so hot.I recommend you switch to a reptiSUN 10.0 or a reptiSUN 5.0 linear.Stay away from any coil or compact uvb as they are at best useless and at worst harmful. What are the exact dimensions of your tank?As for the heat emitter they are good for boosting heat however you beardie really requires a bright white basking light for heat during the day.You can use the CE at night for heat if the temps fall below 65F.You can replace that with just an ordinary household white light or even a flood. You will have to play with the wattages until you get the temps right.Do you have a digital probe thermometer or an infared temp gun? What are the temps in the tank and how are you measuring them?Have you been dusting his feeders with calcium and multivitamins? How old is he?

Ok I'll be switching his UVB tomorrow. My tank is 37" in length, 13 1/2" in width, 17" in height. Ok for the white I should replace the CE with a house hold bulb or flood in the day? What about them being inside in his enclosure? Should I get a wire top and put the fixtures on top? I am right now measuring his temps with a strip thermometer but I'm actually trying to figure out whether to get a probe or gun. Which would you recommend? Right now his temps are around 100 degrees F. I usually dust greens twice a week with Fluker's calcium phosphorus. He is just now a little over 1 year and 2 months and he measures out to be 20 in.

Ok great on getting the bulb. His tank is a little smaller then the minimum requirement for floor space so you will want to eventually change that if possiple. It is recommended for a single adult that they have at least 36x18x18(floor space is key) which is a 40 breeder size although a 4x2x2 is best.Keep an eye on craigslist yu can usually find them for next to nothing.A probe gun is the most accurate but either way you go will be fine and the sooner you can get one the better because it sounds to me like your temps are way to high.Your goal temps are going to be 95-105F basking SURFACE and a cool end of 75-80F(no higher).Yes you want to use a bright white light t replace the basking bulb and you culd get a screen top to rest the lights on.How do you have them positioned now?Ok now on dusting,he is probably really lacking calcium right now because of the UVB and also because he should have been getting live feeding dustings 5xper week for the first year of his life and a multivitamin dusting 2xper week. How is he eating at this point?I would think you may have noticed a decline in that by now?Is he eating his feeders? How many and how often? As for vitamins I recommend repcal calcium w/d3 phosphorous free and herptivite multivitamin also by repcal.Does he have any spinal deviations, curves or bent tail? How is his activity level?

I'm actually getting a new tank next week. The dimensions for that are 36"l, 18"w, 12"h. And I'll get that thermometer tomorrow as well.
I've attached photos on his setup. He usually eats all his veggies and crickets and has a bm everyday at least once. Sometimes they are really small tho. He eats about 15 crickets 5 times per week. His tail isn't bent completely but sometimes he sticks the tip in the air and it is darker than the rest of him

Well the good news is most of your setup besides adjusting the lights looks great.I do want to recommend you move the basking light over to one side. You wont be able to thermoregulate a cool end if its in the middle.Great on the tank as well thats good news also.As for eating you may want to feed a bit more then that.Babies and juvies should really be allowed to eat their fill for 15 minutes at least 3xper day at a year to 18 mos I would still offer as much as he wants at least 2xper day and of course the veggies daily.

Thanks so much for all the help! Hopefully I can get this right. If anyone has any suggestions for setting up with a wire top please don't hesitate!

Your Welcome.
Well if your using the screen just lay the uvb and the clamp lamp for the basking light side by side(or as close as possible) directly under basking area and you should be good to go :D .

You really only need it if you want to keep the tank warm at night as they are not supposed to have any light at night but again you only really need it if the temps fall below 65F.You wont need it during the day.

Alright...wanna hear a coincidence? My CE burnt out this morning! I then put in a 60 watt lightbulb. I still don't have a good thermometer but the sticky one said that it was 80-85 in the middle of the tank. BTW the heat source is now on the far right side like you suggested. I replaced the 60 watt with a 75 like an hour ago and the temps really haven't gone up much. He is basking a lot but is not warm to the touch. I'm worried he might be cold. Should I try the 100 watt tomorrow?

I cant tell you whether or not to up the bulb wattage. You really must go get a a digital with a probe as soon as possible. The longer you go without proper temps the more likely you are going to be to have major problems. You can even go get a cheap probe from the pet store for likr 4$ or you could go with the accurite from Walmart for about 12$.I cant stress how improtant proper temps are.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
