Oh No... Potential Impaction...

So my 5 1/12 inch baby lizard just ate a large cricket, plus a couple small ones.

There is NO WAY that large cricket should have been in the cricket box, the petsmart lady got em all out of the small cricket container. It had crawled up in a tube, and I didnt see it until it had popped out into the tank, and BLAM he went straight for the big one. I was able to grab its legs hanging out of his mouth, but they just ripped off and he swallowed it.

Now what do I do....

Is your baby showing any signs of complications?

If he is...I'd get some babyfood applesauce and mix a drop or two of olive oil. This will possibly help it pass through his system easier.

Warm baths with the water up to his armpits will help hydrated him which could possibly also help in passing this big cricket. I'd also while in the bath massage his little tummy with your fingertip on the right side from top to bottom. I know he's very small but try to massage in a circular motion.

Dont worry too much, Im sure he'll be fine. Did he chew it really well? Babies can and will eat big prey items, but its just not reccomended to be constantly feeding them large food.

Ive kept him up on his perch next to the basking light, and I just gave him a warm soak in my washed out soap dish. He let me massage his stomach for awhile until he had enough of it.

Showing no signs of complications, he literally JUST ate the thing like 10-15 minutes ago.

His belly is bigger, but thats obviously to be expected.

Ill try the olive oil, I dont know if hes down to eat anything for the rest of the night though...

Just got him to taste a bit of olive oil as well.

If he didn't have an issue getting it down and he's not really showing any signs of complications he should be find. :wink:

Yes, I wouldn't sweat this too much. Keep an eye on him but he'll probably be fine. That same thing happened to my guy and he didn't experience any side effects, though I kept a much better eye on what he was getting afterwards
