Oh crap, melted plastic on Kadaj's Exo Terra Bulb!

As if a sick beardie is not bad enough, this is worse! The UVB fixture pushed the Exo Terra bulb on the black plastic tank rim and got melted plastic on it. It also started smoking

Any way to save it or use something else till we get a replacement? I dont want him to get sicker or bunged up from insufficient heat. I do have a UTH but it doesnt get really hot. Thanks

Well, at least it didn't burn. You're very lucky. On the other hand, your little guy probably doesn't consider himself lucky.
If it were me, I would replace it, for fear that it would now catch fire, being faulty like that.

Yes we are lucky it didn't catch fire. Poor baby has been through alot. What to use for 4 days for heat till Justin gets paid? My mom won't help and already yelled at me for getting baby food.

You can use an ordinary household bulb to get you through just not 1 of the energy saving ones,hth .

We got him a halogen flood light today at the hardware store. Thank goodness that's solved.

You can cover the plastic edges with foil to help protect them from the heat of the lamp going forward.

How is Kadaj doing? I had a basking light do that once. I let the light cool down and never had any trouble with it. It never melted, just had the burn odor for maybe 5 minutes when I turned back on.
