I own a "male" bearded dragon, i got him from a rescue and they told me that it was a he however I'm not sure. I have had him a little over a year now and he has been doing very well. However, he is now doing a behavior that i've never seen. i have read the articular on burmation, however, his behavior is a little differnt then what that described so im unsure if maybe he is partly in burm or if that is even possible. What has happened is He shed off and he shed just fine everything came off, then he had a poop that didnt look like what i was used to seeing so i took photo's of it. this is the poop he had and i went one step further and broke it open to see what was in it this is not his normal poo. sense this poo he has gone into his rock hide and pretty well stayed in there he will come out to catch a cricket like right now his head is sticking out but he is not getting up on his log and sun bathing like normal. I have checked and his temperatures are in the right range, the humidy is right, and i've not changed anything with his cage. i just know He shed, had this odd poop, and is now almost seems if he is nesting and i use this term becuse i hear he/she inside the rock digging at the floor(which is just glass) could my He be a She and i need to get her to the vet??

Hey, :)

First Id suggest determining for 100% certainty whether your dragon is male or female. Males usually have two bumps either side of the top end of their tail near/below the vent, so check him for that? http://www.beardeddragoncare.net/wp-content/uploads/2008/03/bearded-dragon-sexing.jpg-sexing.jpg

Im knew to this whole thing anyway and still have questions of my own but from my own recent experience I know my girl starts hiding in her cave and 'digging' at her carpet if she wants to lay a clutch of eggs. Ideally, I hear you should get her in a good size box she can be kept securely in with a deep layer (10 inches or so?) of washed play sand, moistened, maybe mixed with some unfertilised and untreated soil, however, mine tends to just lay when and where she wants to if she's comfy enough. Sometimes a rogue egg does appear with her poop but they've tended to be better formed than in that picture, but that does look sort of like a forming egg to me...

A vet visit shouldnt be necessary but its up to you really. A good reptile vet should be able to tell you 100% if male or female and maybe help with determining other factors. For example, if he is actually a she and she IS carrying eggs but DOESNT lay them, there is a slim chance (if it turns out he is a she) that her eggs are bound, in which case, definitely go to the vet. But try not to worry about this unless it becomes apparent he is a she and you suspect she may be gravid (carrying eggs etc). Could be expensive.

Hope this helps! This is only my opinion from my experience and is by no means expert advise.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
