 I know, I know!
I don't have picture yet, but picked up Spike and Thorn from BeardedKate last night, as she wanted them going to someone familiar with beardies, and we have had some previous discussions, so she knew me and the care I will give them. [ Invalid URL Removed / p= t=90097 f=2 ] They are both real sweeties. :love5: :love5: Spike is five years old, and has had MBD in her early years, although Kate has had her under the MegaRays, so it is arrested, but her early development was very poor. Kate has had problems getting her to eat anything beyond waxworms, but I managed to interest her in some silkworms last night. We are working on veg this morning, and I'm starting with a little Butternut squash, and collard greens first. She is very curious about her changed surroundings, and I hope this will help her appetite. Thorn is seven years old, and Kate woke him out of his brumation for me to bring him home, and his reaction has been "Moving? I'm sleeping. I'll talk to you in a month or two when I wake up!" Kate has had them both vet-checked regularly, and I will make sure they are both doing well, but may consider Thorn for a classroom beardie when he is ready. I have another sixth grade teacher looking into the possibility of a classroom dragon, and hope Thorn works out well as another Beardie Ambassador. :laughing6:
Is there a specific group for Dragon Addicts? :help:

Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww

I'm actually taking my little buddy in for classroom visits to my kids classes around christmas time. I wanted him to be a little bigger and by then he will be 5 months or so old so I hope he won't scare them too much.

Your baby should be fine, not too frightening :D and still nowhere near adult size. What grade is your class?

Hi Jason,

32 now. not exactly like a pet store, I have larger tanks! :D Kate did a great job with the husbandry for this pair, and Thorn is gorgeous, but Spike never ate well for Kate, and she is showing some interest in other foods, so I hope we can change her mind about the veggies. I will be looking for homes for Astarte's third clutch, ten altogether, next week. That will bring me back down to 22 dragons, then there's my 2 cats, and the 4 rescue kittens, and the other 5 household cats, 3 dogs, and various koi and goldfish. They aren't all mine! :blob5: :blob8: :blob5: :blob8: :blob5: :blob8: :blob5: :blob8: :blob5: :blob8: :blob5: :blob8: :blob5: :blob8: :blob5: :blob8: :blob5: :blob8: :blob5: :blob8: :blob5: :blob8: :blob5: :blob8: :blob5: :blob8: :blob5: :blob8: :blob5: :blob8: :blob5: :blob8: :blob5: :blob8: :blob5: :blob8: :blob5: :blob8: :blob5:

Just to update here, Spike is now eating good quantities, and one of the secrets is JumpStart salad. The recipe is simple, regular salad, (whatever everyone else is having) and before misting with water, I put a bit of jumpstart on top. It has been working very well, and the variety of foods she will eat is the same as everyone else. She gets very energetic, and like to explore wherver she can, although she is clumsy, and wants to climb things she can't climb down again. She needs an escort for any of her rambles. :blob8:
Thorn, on the other hand, has mostly wanted to brumate, been up for a few hours, a couple of times, and what a sweetheart, a wonderful cuddlebug! Also, I believe he is a she, no femoral pore development, unlike the rest of my boys, tail bump indicates female, too, but will get that double-checked. I talked about using her as a beardie ambassador, but will have a very hard time letting her go! :love5: :love5:

hey, sorry i havent posted on your threads lately... its good that Spike is acting more energetic, thats funny how she climbs things then gets stuck  . does she ever try jumping from these places? i know my Mayze girl always tries to jump off of things that are too high(sofa, chair, table), as you know she is pretty heavy so im worried about a fall  .

thats nice your at least able to spend some time with Thorn. i dont know what id do if my guys went into full brumation, id be worried all the time  .

what exactly do you mean by "beardie ambassador" and "letting her go"? wouldnt you be the one showing her to different school groups and such?

Hi Jason,

Always good to hear from you and don't worry about how often you post, I know you have enough keeping up with your tribe. Yes, Spike will try to jump, but her bone structure is fragile, and that is why she needs an escort, to prevent her from doing something that might break bones.

Thorn is seven years old, so I am just learning her cycles, but Fib can brumate between three and five months. I never let him sleep all that time, checking as I worry, everyonce in a while disturbing enough to get a flutter of an eyeball at least. Sometimes he wakes up, takes a stretch, and sometimes I wake him up, give a quick soak, and offer food. If he takes it, he may be up a couple days, then tuck back in, but he comes up roaring when he is done with it! No mistake, Fib is up and ready for action when he is done with his "nap." I am watching Thorn, and she seems to be at it the same way, although I think she'd like do her brumating in a nest of my hair, curled on my shoulder!

The "beardie ambassador" is an idea I am working on to get dragons into classrooms as live-in pets, with a program that allows kids to learn more about the care, feeding, habits, observation, conservation and preservation of all our scaly friends, with bright, friendly beardies leading the way. I'm focusing on sixth grade classes, as the kids have enough maturity as a group, to understand the needs in caring for another creature. I'll post more on it, as it comes to fruition.

I just walked into my room and instead of looking at me, Swordtail's eyes darted directly to the ice cream drumstick I'm holding
