Not Shedding

Hello,

My Bearded Dragon was born on December 17th, 2015. I've had him when he was only a month old, and he's been healthy and happy ever since.

There's really no visible problems with him, he's always perky and happy, always runs around and loves being held. He's very alert, and I am confident I am giving him all that he needs.

He's almost nine months old now, and last time I measured him he was only 16-17 inches. He hasn't shedded since June or July. This concerns me a bit, as his father was really big in size. I know that he should turn out to be a big Beardie, but I am worried about his growth. Recently, he's had really small pieces of shedding coming off his face, but that's the extent. To restate what I have said, he is close to nine months and he hasn't shed since June or July.

Is it normal that he hasn't grown or shed in a while? After he's a year old will he get bigger? Or is there something wrong?

He looks like he's in really good shape. As they approach adulthood their growth slows down quite a bit and shedding becomes much less frequent. He may continue to grow slowly for another year or so but it will be much less noticeable.

I can confirm this , my Peppa and Toothless have only recently had a mini shed on the lips and face and snout lately (in the last couple of weeks) and their last full sheds was back in June, they are now almost 11 months old.

My two have been growing pretty consistently the entire time. See Growth chart thus far:

Okay thanks. Does that mean that he is getting close to his max size? Cause like I said, his dad was HUGE. His dad's head was the size of my closed fist. That's why I was a bit concerned about his size, because I wasn't sure if there was something wrong.

He might fill out a bit more but might not gain many more inches in length. Then again, he may have another growth spurt in him. Hard to say for sure. He looks like he's healthy to me though.

My records for Puff and Rex indicate that they kept on growing for another 12 months or so, tapering off at about 2 years old and nearly doubling their masses to about 640g and becoming a bit longer.

So I expect Peppa and Toothless, and your's, will do likewise.



The table below shows the max size based on the type of bearded dragon, but keep in mind that most dragons will not grow to be as big as their max overall (tip of tail to snout) size.
