Hi there,
Just looking for some advice. The tip of my beardies tail has gotten pretty dark and I'm arfraid it could be tail rot. She also going through a shed on her tail right now so I'm hoping it could just be from that. It still looks relatively healthy, there hasn't been any trauma to it, eating a normal diet of greens, veggies, hornworms, temps are normal 85-100, 24" tube uvb light for a 50gal tank, vinyl substrate. Oh and she has tested positive for adenovirus, so far it has only effected her digestive system causing diarrhea but is now doing very well on meds to help firm her stool, she's fully breaking down her greens and is also getting critical care for extra nutrients. Other than her digestive system, which has improved, he behavior is normal, no other symptoms of the virus. I'm hoping to successfully attach some pictures..

Thanks for any help!

Hello,

It looks relatively normal. If I am seeing it correctly, the top needs to shed & the middle has already shed?
The end looks pretty dark, has it shed at all?
If it doesn't have any retained shed, then there shouldn't be any constriction that would cause tail rot to start. That area is flexible & pliable still, correct?

Right, the middle has shed, the tip and base of her tail has not shed yet. It does still feel decently pliable and flexible. So I should make sure the tip of her tail sheds otherwise it could start tail rot? I did soak her the other day and for once she seemed to enjoy it because of the shedding. Will soaking her help to make sure that tip sheds?

Hi Syd.....when you soak her again, use a toothbrush to get that little 1/2" band of skin off , the part that is right above the black area. If you look very closely it appears to be constricting that area a bit. Try to get that off ASAP. If it won't come off right away get some pure aloe gel on it [ with no added ingredients ] or vitamin E oil or a dab of olive oil will do.

It's most likely fine but better safe than sorry since it's darker than most normally dark tails. Can you post the same type of close up pics on a flat solid color table or floor so the fluff from the carpet isn't interfering with the image ?

Thanks so much for the advice! Got home a little while ago and that band of white shedding skin towards the end of her tail has broken up on its own. I did have to soak her anyways because she looked like she played in her poop today haha I used a toothbrush a little bit to help the skin shed at the tip of her tail....great idea even for getting poo off her! Thanks for that!
I got another picture but I cannot figure out how to upload more pictures after I first did it. But I will say it looks SO much better and looks like it's just a normal shed. I did see what you meant about that band of skin that looked consticting, it's broken up now and I'll continue to monitor that and make sure the shed keep breaking up.

Thanks for all the help!!

Hello,

That is good news the skin is starting to lift on the tip now. :D It was hard to tell but did look like it needed to shed because it was pretty dark.
The tail sheds are so troublesome sometimes! Let us know how she is doing.
You can try shea butter, cocoa butter, olive oil or coconut oil to help if needed.

I just set Swordtail's timer for his bath and paused it so I could actually fill his soaking bowl up and he crawled over my phone and canceled the timer 🤣
Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
