Non-Porous Basking Platform

Hello Everyone,

I just took Tuco, my 7-month old beardie to the vet for a checkup. He has not been eating/growing as well as he should have. The vet said his husbandry was fine (lighting, temps, etc. all fine), so she suspected he could have some parasite.

Regardless of what the fecal exam turns up, she did recommend that I ditch Tuco's wooden basking platform, as this could hold diseases and parasites that will infect/reinfect him. He currently basks on an overturned cubby shelf with a pine ramp - all covered in cloth for grip.

Does anybody have any tips on a non-porous basking platform I could use or make? HIs tank is 18" in height, and I'd like something that would raise him up about 8-10 inches.

What sort of uvb to you have? If you have a t5 ho 10% or 12% mounted inside then you need 12” from it to the basking spot in which case you can use a lower basking platform.
My viv is 18.5” high and I use nonporous items throughout my guys vivarium and this platform in size large https://www.komodoproducts.com/products/decor/komodo-large-basking-ramp.html is the perfect height to use to be 12” from the t5 , it also doubles as a hide in the warm end

If you do not have a t5 ho 10% or 12% then I highly recommend the upgrade. I recently made the switch and my dragons much happier for it


Also a side note: my guy had low level coccidia awhile back and I brought a garment steamer as heat is the best way to kill it from decor and viv. Obviously with my boy, Marlow, out of the viv I remove all decor and steam it all and then I steam inside my viv. When it’s all dry completely I put everything back and all done nice and easy and no harsh chemicals.
I now use it as part of my routine clean.
