I was reading this story on yahoo answers and there was a beardie owner who had no UVB light for 3 years and just jad bought one and was wondering if his dragon can be healthy and alert. at the current moment he said it only ate once every 3 days. but he wanted to know if having the UVB light now can bring him back to eating and beaing healthy and more alert.

It can, it depends on the general health of the beardie. If the only thing wrong is the lack of uvb, then yes. If there are other health issues, such as various parasite issues, then a vet visit would be suggested. Just make sure to go to a vet that specializes in beardies.

Years ago, many reptile hobbyists kept bearded dragons without any source of UVB at all. The belief back then was that supplementing calcium, and vitamin D3 with their diet, was enough for their body to properly absorb and process the calcium. I cannot remember what the average length, or life expectancy in captivity was under these conditions... But I can guarantee that the size, and age that our dragons can thrive to these days, was unheard of back then.
