No sex drive??

I have a year old beardie "Chuy" and before I bought him he was "tested" to see if he had any breeding signs when a female was present (@ 9 months old)...he did not show any signs. Since the time I got him I have never seen him head bob to a mirror or my boyfriends beardie (who is nothing in size compared to Chuy) or at all for that matter. He is really laid back, never aggressive, but I think Im noticing him being a little more independent.

My question is can a male beardie never want to mate? I want to breed him in the future but I will need a female before I do that. I wouldnt want to get a female unless if I know he will be willing to breed.

Thanks! I had a nice BDmember make it for me hehehe. I have a Reptile Expo that my bf and I are going to this weekend. I want to see if I can talk him into getting a beardie!!! HAHAHA I want a little lady for Chuy! But if he isnt going to use her.....then whats the point?! LOL

Annie, in my 6 years I never had a dragon that did not want to breed! When you introduce a female, then nature instincts almost immediately take over!! Things will change when their is another dragon in play!! But just remember not to breed till they are both at least two years old!

If they won't breed, what's the point???? The point is to have another dragon, then if that female doesn't work with your male, you get another male......and the cycle goes on an on an on. hehehehehe. :mrgreen:

Tyson (boyfriend's beardie) always seemed really laid back. He's gotten a black beard 3 times- 2x looking in the mirror, and 1x at the vet. Anyway, I went out of town last week, and sent Lilly over to stay with Tyson and my boyfriend. He caught a glimpse of her and didn't seem to care, then I was on the computer and heard a thump from his cage and saw him completely black-bearded and head bobbing like a maniac. He continued to head bob even after we moved Lilly where there was no way he could see her. We have considered breeding them when they are both much older (Lilly's only 8 months) and boyfriend says "well, at least we know they like each other."

HEHEHE cute story. I hope Chuy will get the drive someday!!! And yes, the more beardies the better thats for sure!!! If electricity wasnt so expensive here I would have another by now since I have everything for a baby beardie. Im going off to school in a month and I would only have enough room for Chuy so If I get another my bf Sam will have to take care of the lil one.

But has anyone ever have one that didnt wana "get it on"? LOL :lol:

Omg, I SOOOO want solar energy for my millions of beardies I want! Maybe when I get my own place Ill be sure to add those in!
Yes, Snuggles is my boyfriends Beardie. Sam got me into beardies and now Im the one whos obsessed with them. Snuggles is a little runt, but is finally showing some growth! He had a rough start cause of parisites and meds, almost died, nursed him back to health, and finally showing some progress. He is a little over 11 inches now. Chuy is going over the 21 inch mark!! But that was an ordeal!! Snuggles is a male btw. He has drive though! I set Chuy next to him and he got PISSEDDD! running around like a little mad man, stomping his little foot, bobbing and bearding. It was really cute, Chuy acted like he didnt even see him!

WELL! I caught Chuy being a "man" today!!!! for the first time ever he was head bobbing, stomping his front feet and charged into a mirror!!! I was so shocked!!! It all happened so fast! I knew he was getting spunky lately so I wanted to see if there was really a change.....and there was! Im so excited!! I cant wait to breed him. Any ideas of what would be best paired with him? Heres some body pics....
