No lid on tank?

Hello!

I was wondering. I just realized this morning how much I hate removing and replacing the screen top on Salacia's tank everytime I do something. It's a 40 Gallon Breeder. There's nothing high enough or close enough to the top edges of the glass for her to get out. Can I just remove the top completely? I have clamps for my MVB dome. I'm thinking about clamping it to the side, and aiming it a little closer to her basking spot. I also heard this will allow full UVB rays to reach her. Is this a good idea?

It's fine, as long as she can't get out. A lot of people leave the top open, you just have to make sure you don't have any tall furniture that would let her climb out.

It will allow alot more UVB light as well I saw somewhere how much the screen blocked out.

Also if you take the lid off make sure your other animals (if you have any) wont try to get at your beardie. Cats & dogs ect.

I'd be afraid to when they're little babies! Salacia is a fatty though

when they are in a smaller tank they can jump on the edge.

if the basking area reaches close to the top they may also try to climb up.

both of my beardies have gotten "out". and by out i mean balancing on the ledge chilling. but they had pretty high logs. now they have the half log that is hollowed out and i haven't had any problems.

if the basking area is no higher than half the tank you shouldn't have a problem.

Everyone else has already answered your question pretty well... I just wanted to add in there to make sure that you mount your MVB so that it's pointed straight down vertically, as you're not supposed to tilt MVBs at any kind of an angle. This can be a bit difficult to accomplish with a clamp sometimes, so a lot of people use lampstands when using an MVB with no tank lid. Good luck!
