No Basking Lamp :(

Okay here is my situation. Yoshi's basking bulb burnt out a little bit a go so I went to change it. When I did It somehow broke. So now Yoshi won't have a lamp until next weekend when I will have money. I feel like a bad beardie mommy.

He has been brumating off and on since last month. He will sleep for about 3-4 days wake up and eat a morning meal bask for a bit then go back to sleep late morning. He was sleeling when his light burnt out today.

So I was wondering what I could do in the meantime since I won't be able to get him a lamp until next weekend. If he wakes up and eats could I just give him a bath after awhile? Any advice would be welcome.

you can use a lamp or any kind of light fixture til then? I know even a 60w regular bulb would be ok, the lamps/dome are like 8bucks at walmart. I think that will be too long without heat.

Is he brumating right now? If so, you're probably okay to wait a few days.

What kind of lamp is it?

You could use a regular household (incandescent or halogen) bulb for heat.

If he wakes up, I would actually recommend just skipping his food until you get a lamp again. If he's brumating and there is no heat or light, he is very unlikely to wake up, but if he does even a nice long bath isn't going to be warm enough for long enough for his stomach to digest the food properly. It's better in this case to just skip feeding until he can have a heat light again - especially since he is brumating.

In some cases, I actually recommend completely shutting off the lights for a week or two to encourage beardies (and other brumating species) to completely sleep and then wake up. During that time they usually don't wake up, they just zonk out completely and then when the lights start getting turned back on, they start waking back up more and more. In your case, it's not voluntary, but it is a similar length of time and the results are likely to be similar. While it's not ideal, your beardie should be okay for a week with no extra heat, so long as it's at least 65 degrees in your house.

don't buy the basking lamps from the pet stores, they are overpriced.

just get a regular, clear, daylight bulb from lowes or any other light bulb-selling-place.

you don't need the lights on while your beardie is brumating. so don't go nuts trying to get one right away.
