Hello,

Was anything else off on the blood test, other than just the liver enzymes?
That is a good amount of meds she is on right now. Be sure to keep her well hydrated since the meds can dehydrate her pretty badly.
When do you get the adeno test back, they did test for that, correct?
Milk thistle or hepasil is very good for helping cleanse the liver. Did they mention if she had fatty liver or just a failing liver?

Let us know how she is doing.

Thanks for the advice on keeping her hydrated, I'll look out for that. They did a CBC test that should be back in 2 days (I don't remember what that's for though) and they said the adeno one can take up to 14 days.
They said it could be either fatty or failing, they're not sure. She said she hopes it just fatty.

Hello,

Sure, they likely sent it to the U. of Florida then if it's going to take that long.
Let us know what the results say.
If you have a copy of the blood tests that would be good if you could post them here so we could see them.
For now, focus on hydration & greens slurries with minimal protein right now. In the pictures, her fat pads on top of her head look flat so it looks like she could use some hydration right now.
You can keep her tank around 80 or so overnight to help boost her immune system, too.

Let us know how she is doing.

Should I force her to drink? She's sleeping now but I'll do it in the morning. She wouldn't drink this afternoon. Is it important for them to physically drink it vs just soaking? And when I'm soaking her (which we do daily), should I be using electrolytes as well? The vet did say it's important to soak her 20-30 minutes while on these antibiotics. And if I use electrolytes, do I just use pedialyte AND water?

Also, is the adenovirus like a short death sentence? The vet made it sound like dragons can live with it, but I'm doing research online and most sound like they're nearing death.

And if she does have ADV, should I get her milk thistle and colloidal silver to have ON TOP of the "atadenovirus supplement" the vet already gave us? I didn't realize it, but on the bottle this morning I read that she is FOREVER going to have this medication. Which is fine and I should've assumed, it was just strange they didn't tell me that.

Hello,

I will PM you also.
How is your dragon doing today?
Have you had any luck with getting any oral fluids into her with a dropper or syringe?
Daily baths are very good for hydration if she is tolerant of a daily bath, that is.
You can use pedialyte, diluted for oral hydration, also.
It greatly varies from dragon to dragon regarding the Adeno virus. If they are carriers they normally don't exhibit symptoms quite as badly as ones who have a higher infection rate & are showing symptoms.
Which adeno medication is she on, what supplement is it called?
The milk thistle and colloidal silver helps with immune system & liver function.

Let us know how she is doing.

Hi Tracie! :)
I actually sent you a message... yesterday? I think! I appreciate you following up :)
Lillie usually doesn't mind her baths. We're soaking her daily about 25-30 minutes. Yesterday, she was actually drinker the water from the syringe they gave us. She drank A LOT. Which leads to my next question, is it possible to overhydrate them, or will she stop when she's had enough?
I'll pick up some pedialyte. That's a good idea.
As for the adeno medication, the bottle reads "Atadenovirus Supplement (Lact/MTE/DF 1 unit each) Compounded MTE 40mg/ml, DRE 10%

Hello,

Oh ok, so they gave you lactulose? Is that correct? If so, can cycle off & on that. It is for liver cleansing.
I suppose it is possible to overhydrate them through too much oral fluids. Most of the time though when drinking on their own they will stop when they have had enough.
At least Lillie doesn't mind her baths then. I hope she is doing better today!
Keep us posted on her.

I'm not sure. It doesn't say anything else on the bottle. It looks like they make the medicine there at the office. Should I still do milk thistle in addition?
She's doing better as the days goes on! She's still a little lethargic, which has me concerned, but not nearly as bad as she was. And the tip of her tail is no longer black. The vet called and spoke with my husband. She said since she is doing better and her tail isn't black, it was most likely blood poisoning.
Also, as for parasites, she is on medication for those. We washed the wood that was in her cage with warm water and very diluted bleach, then let it sit out in the sun. How often do we need to do this to prevent parasites from coming back? Like how long is she on the medication before they're dead and won't reinfest her stuff? I know with fleas (we have two cats), you have to clean basically EVERY day and wash EVERYTHING until the fleas die, otherwise they'll reinfest.

Thank you SO much for all of your advice. I very much appreciate it!

Hello!

Sure, you can go ahead & give milk thistle also that wont hurt.
Is she feeling better now? That is great her tail tip isn't black anymore either.
At least you acted on it fast & the treatment has helped out so much.
Routinely, the meds are given 7-14 days for coccidia or sometimes up to 21 days depending on the severity of infection. For worming, usually 3 treatments is enough to knock most infections out but some vets give more doses than that.
The meds are given long enough to get any remnants of eggs that hatch out in the life cycle.
Just keep the tank clean & use paper towels for substrate & everything should stay clean & disinfected.
I would keep the wood items out of the tank until she is clear just to save time & effort on the cleaning. Use cardboard boxes, etc for basking instead of the wood to cut down on reinfection.

Keep us posted on her.

She seems to be feeling better. Still a little groggy.. not really active. But we still haven't been feeding her live protein yet.. just the powder stuff mixed with water that they gave us. And she's only been on that parasite medication for not even a week, so I think that may be what it is.
For her floor, we have the cement tile.. should I put paper towels over that? And she has a permanent fixture in there that we made out of Styrofoam and layered with watered down cement stuff. It would be a little difficult to cover everything with paper towel.
The cardboard instead of wood though is a GREAT idea. I will definitely do that tonight :)

Hello,

That sounds great. Yeah, just cover the floor with paper towels & use cardboard for awhile for basking. She wont like it much but it helps out on cleaning though.
How is she liking the critical care powdered food then? As soon as she is done with the meds she should start to become more active & feel better too. It does tend to make them more tired, also.
I am happy to hear that she is adeno negative also, that is great news!
Are her colors still looking good?
Keep us posted on her!

I found this article on Fatty Liver disease and thought it might help.

http://www.netvet.co.uk/lizards/fatty-liver-disease.htm

I'm not sure what to think about "force feeding" your beardie to prevent it...seeing as it's the opposite of what the vet told you to do. Maybe you can give your vet a call and discuss it?

very interesting article. Thanks for posting it.

"giving her one feeding every day and she would eat like 20-30 crickets. She's 1 year old." -- that seems a lot. As the article describes as well, in the wild they are moving all the time to get food, thereby burning fat/sugars for energy. Even if your BD is not a fan of greens/veggies, BD's will take to them if one can be persistent with them. They'll learn to appreciate them, we need to stop overfeeding on protein.

In any case - hope this Beardie will recover soon.

If your beardie is an avid water drinker, you can try misting the greens before offering them, and then the beardie will associate greens with water. My youngest beardie LOVES water but has no interest in greens. This is how I got him to eat his. You can even start by putting the greens in their water dish, if yours has one. Their tongue will pick up the lettuce along with the water.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
Mirage entered brumation yesterday, I'm gonna miss hanging out with my little guy.
