Nikka's World (new fresh pics jan24!)

I adopted Nikko August 20. He's just a few weeks old. 7 inches then and 7 1/2 inches as of yesterday (aug31). I waited the 2 week mark to start our own thread. Just worried I'd somehow mess up caring for him in my nervousness to do it all perfectly.

Oct27, 2011 Found out he is a she and is now called Nikka instead of Nikko.. Weight 30 grams. Length is the same.

Nov21, 2011 Weight 62 grams.
Nov30, 2011 Weight 84 grams. | Total Length 11 1/2 inches.
Dec20, 2011 Weight 140 grams. | Total Length 14 inches. Wow!!
Jan24, 2012 Weight 264 grams. Total Length 17 inches. She's almost doubled weight in a month! New pics to go with this pg10

I'm a photographer part time. So I thought it would be fun to incorporate my lenses into documenting his growth. He ran to my favorite lens.

Nikko is now up to 28 grams! Woot!


I pulled his tank buddies out with him for some floor time.


Today we tried a new salad. Escarole, tiny amount kale, fresh shredded carrot and zucchini, peeled and chopped grapes...all organic. Access DEnied. lmbo. He still won't eat veggies since we started him on meds a few weeks ago. Upside he loves butters and liked dubias. So he is eating. He loves butters the most.

He didn't like them at ALL first. haha! But he has accepted them now. Sometimes he even sits on them. Hasn't pooped on them yet so that's flattering right? :mrgreen:

im afraid to keep anything like that in with my beardie cuz she poops everywhere (on my shirt, on my laptop, on top of her branches :roll: ) on top of that my daughter has the stomach flu...im sooooo tired of cleaning up poop this week! lol

Oh my gosh! The past 2 weeks we've had a colds raging through the house. The amount of snot I have dealt with is INSANE! Bleh! I do not envy you! Nikko poops in his viv only and 90% of the time before noon. I hope your daughter feels better! How old is she?

Nikko is 3-4 months. I think he was about 6/7 weeks old when I got him at the end of August.

ewwww booogers! poor family! lol my daughter is 18 mos and is teething! that means drewl, poop, and boogers! lol and she's meaner than EVER!

im trying to get my beardie Cupid to poop mostly in the bath. she's getting better at it, but i dont bathe her every day and the poop has gotta go somewhere! :wink:

I decided to keep updating the original post with his stats. It's interesting to see his growth. Yesterday he FINALLY ate some greens. Not much but it's progress. And he is still in the middle of a shed. He did his legs first and now his head. I've been bathing him and rubbing organic coconut oil on him to help- poor thing was running around his viv rubbing all over all the blankets and anything else he could bump into. He is nibbling on a nice variety of things. His appetite is small while he sheds but daily he will sample his salad and he eats a few dubias and butters. I am very pleased to see him eating more than one kind of food. He is getting easier to administer his gout medicine. I had to hold him down and pry his mouth open before. Now he will almost take his full dose by licking the syringe. But he still gulp/gags part way through. It's really weird. It's that last 1 ml that he semi-fights.

I bought some velcro to suspend his RS 10 bulb in the viv. And a baby toothbrush for baths to help with his shedding. The things we do for our critter babies. The weather has been in the 80s lately so we are lapping it up- I try to take Nikko out for about half hour a day if I can. I know it's not much - but he seems a little nervous. I have a basking log for him but he hunkers down and turns super black. But if I hold him and let him bask, he is a little less black and he sits upright looking around. Reminds me of a child- they feel more secure with their parents around. Such a cutie.

Oh and his stats are: 28 grams, 9 inches total length but 3 1/2 inches from nose to vent and 5 1/2 inches from vent to tail tip. Boy he sure has a looong tail! Is he rather scrawny for a 4 month old?

Nikko is looking great! Ember is a bit younger than him - she's probably close to 3 months old at this point so his stats seem perfectly normal to me. Ember is about 30 grams, but I haven't measured her in about a week so I can't tell you if she's closer to 8 inches or 9 inches.

Have you gotten brave enough to try sexing him again? We can help if you can post a pic too Hope your family is all better soon!
