nighttime heating

Its getting colder hereby the day it seems, now im worried about heating at night. I bought an infer red light which iv been told is not good they can see it and it disturbes their sleep. what do you think about an undertank heat mat? Once spyros a bit bigger i will be moving him up to a five footish tank, thats when i'll use a ceramic heater as well, the shop where i bought him suggested a radiator, but i would have thought that would be as dangerous as a hot rock :roll: soo any practical ideas? thanks julie

suppose they can stand the cold in nite time? jus ensure enough basking for them in the day will do.

With my former two boy, I originally had an infrared heat bulb for nighttime, but then switched to a nighttime blue light because the red bulb gave off too much heat. Neither bulbs bothered them. As soon as the lights went off, they were already dozing off. And the only times they'd wake up during the night was when their platform fell or they needed to switch sleep positions.

With Pookie, however, I never used a nighttime heat source. When he was a baby, he had always slept either on his resin tree branch or behind Mr. Bear (his teddy bear). As he got older and no longer fit comfortably on either, I made him a bed and blanket, and he slept on that inside his tank. Since the summer, he'd been sleeping with me in the bedroom, where it's a little warmer than out in the living room. But regardless of where he slept, he was never bothered by the lower nighttime temps.

As long as it does not get below 65 degrees in the viv you should be fine. Most homes should not get that low. They acually sleep better in cooler temps. If you need heat you can use a infered heat emitter. No light just heat.

thanks for the replies, i love the bed idea i've just bought spyro a fleece blanket which i'm sure he aproves of. hes now 12" long so if i try that it wont last long at the rate he's growing at the mo :lol: when his viv lights go on in the morning he looks very dark, and the temps have been dropping to around 60 which is why i've been concerned about him. julie.
