I live in southern california and chilly isn't really all that chilly but just to be save I was wondering what type of methods I can use to keep my beardie warm at night and during the winter without disturbing her sleep. cost is a little bit of an issue so cheaper the method the better.

thanks in advance

Ceramic Heat Emitters work very well and produce no light. 100w or 150w, might need a dimmer. I got mine from Amazon. Hope it helps!

Also in So. Cal. here, I havn't had any issues with the temp getting below 65, I think the lowest was 68 or so. But if you are getting below 65 you could probably get some styrofoam and wrap it around three wall of the viv (if it's glass), or even a blanket or towel as long as there is ventilation. But I think a ceramic heater is easiest, I think they are about $35 or so at petco.

If it doesn't get below 65 in the viv at night, you don't have to worry about nighttime heat. We've let it get to around 60 in our dragon's viv and he didn't freak out about it. Just went to his basking spot right away in the morning. But the safe rule is below 65 and you should have nighttime heat. Anything above that and they're fine.

As for cost...Nothing concerning having a bearded dragon is cheap, except the veggies/fruits for salads...

Agreed.

Just to throw a monkey wrench in things, I've let temps drop lower than that for quite some time in the past with no ill effects.

As have we, with my Iccarus, before he passed. He actually preferred it at night when it was below 60, and seemed to sleep better in a colder room, than a warmer room. But he was unique. lol

I had my dragons in a garage one winter (Cali winter.. lol) And they were there the whole winter.

Night time temps in the garage usually dropped to at least 50, usually mid 40's. Never had a problem, and Naughtica was one of them. Shes still alive and well 4 years later
The other two I had during that time, I don't have anymore. But it's not because of their nights being too cold.. :study:

That's not bad at all.

(disclaimer: You should not attempt this unless you know your dragon, and what he/she prefers, and unless you know what you're actually doing and have experience...)

Iccarus was kept in the room that got the coldest in the winter, and it got to the 40's at night in there one year too. He actually got grumpy (black bearded which is something he NEVER did, threw temper tantrums, and actually tried hissing and biting) when I moved his tank to a different room (not just the move, as he stayed like that for months after) that was warmer. When I put him back in the colder room, he turned back into his normal self. Got bright again, never hissed or bit, and quit with the tantrums. Daytime was never a problem, just nighttime temps were with him.

Again: You really have to know your dragons and what they like to be able to do certain things with them.

I just set Swordtail's timer for his bath and paused it so I could actually fill his soaking bowl up and he crawled over my phone and canceled the timer 🤣
Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
