After a lot of research and looking at this awesome board I bought my first beardie. Right now he is in a 20 long tank until proab next Wednesday cause I'm building him another nice cage which is almost complete. He is about 15 months is what the lady at pet store told me. She had me use walnut bedding but after careful review noticed it was highly not recommended. He is eating his greens, and crickets just fine. Gave him 2 soakings this week the 2nd one mainly cause I noticed he hasn't pooped yet in a week and that help him release. It was quite a bit which I don't know if thats normal. I will be posting pictures once I get the new cage up and running. He loves to be held and sits either on my shoulder or my lap while i'm working on papers or bills. Thats all for now I'll post more as time permits.

Hello and Welcome

I'm glad you researched around before you bought your beardie...that probably kept you from making some easy mistakes! Congratulations on your new little guy! 15 months old...he must be full grown then! I'm glad you took out the walnut bedding...paper towels would work better than that I think. So glad it sounds like he's doing really well though! Can't wait to see pics!

Here are a few pictures. The uvb light you might not be able to see. I converted an old entertainment center into his cage. Pretty cheap actually. The background and flooring is actually contact paper. Later this week when I have time I gonna go get some tile and some more decorations. I just put him in there last night. He loves it. His name is Hank. The rest of vents are going in tonight. As you can see I've been experimenting with bulbs and couldn't get the basking temp just right so I took the old light dome and put it on the one I installed and it works to keep about 106. I think this cage is ok for my first time. Probably cost me about 60 bucks. I'll be adding trim to it later to make it look nicer.If you see anything wrong with the setup let me know.

The only thing that worries me is the contact paper. Is it self-adhesive? When building my tank a while ago, I did some research in the enclosure section (but you'll most likely just have to use the search thing) and found that's probably not a good idea to have on the inside. The same with other things like paint.

From what I understand, the intense heat will heat up the tiles or the contact paper, and the fumes from the glue could be very harmful to your little one...

The stuff I got said non toxic. I gonna put in tile this weekend and I wanna eventually add a rock wall when time allots.

here is an updated picture. took out the contact paper and put in tile. upgraded to the reptisun 10.0 and installed a light dimmer which really helped with getting the right basking temperature. Again let me know if you see something wrong with setup. I will be installing a lock on the glass door proab next week.
