I'm kassandra and I got kirk (or james t kirk, jim, Captain Kirk) big Star Trek fan lol (my ball python is named spock so it was only fitting for their personalities).

Anyways, I got him at petsmart because I work there and I know everyone avoids them for reptiles but I've got to say he's one healthy and happy guy. I got him herp vet checked and he eats regularly and sheds on tee. He's in a 50 gallon, he's about 9 months (rough estimate) and 12 inches long. I feed him dusted crickets everyday and he also eats pellets/freeze dried crickets on those days that I run out of crickets or can't get some and he surprisingly eats them. He's on newspaper soon to be on some slate or porcelain tile. His basking spot is always 85-100 F. Humidity is usually 40%. He's active and super friendly, only bit me once when I accidentaly scared him awake (my fault). He's housed with a reptisun 10.0 and a 100w basking spot bulb accompanied with a 60w bulb to get that gradient (it's a big tank, the national geographic 50g tank).

I do understand he can't be in this cage for his whole life but he can be in here for a while, right? It's 36x18x18 and he's 12 inches. My stepdad is a carpenter and he said he build me a 70-80 gal tank come the time he gets bigger. Just wanted to know what you guys think of my care for him and if there's anything i can change :) thanks, kirk and I look forward to chatting with you all!

Hi Kassandra ! It sounds like you're doing a great job with Kirk, and I'm sure you're going to be a good beardie mom. :) The only thing I can think of is to add greens to his diet. Of course some dragons aren't crazy about greens but it's important to offer them. The best kinds are collards, turnip, dandelion and mustard greens. Squash is good for them, too. Adding greens to his diet will provide alot of nutrients as well as extra hydration. So.....enjoy your buddy Kirk and post some pics when you have a chance.

I just set Swordtail's timer for his bath and paused it so I could actually fill his soaking bowl up and he crawled over my phone and canceled the timer 🤣
Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
