I just started breeding super worms.
I was wondering if anyone had any good information for me. I first tried using cups for each super then realized that foam cups are a horrible idea, so i went out and bought a fishing box with 20 boxes in it.

Am I to a good start or is 20 not enough? I only have one bearded dragon to feed.

I turned 12 into aliens and am waiting for them to go beetle. I hear the females can lay up to 500 eggs in their lifetime! So, I think I will be ok lol!

I've heard they lay 500 eggs but only 50 will hatch.

Hmm, ok glad to learn that. I don't plan to use them as a staple myself, but will be raising them and selling excess whenever I have any. Or maybe trading for other feeders :D I don't think I'll ever have more than 25 beetles at once.

I don't have experience with keeping my beetles alive this long, but, I have talked to someone who breeders superworms and sells them to my local petstore. He says that the beetles can live up to a year, and a female will lay around 500 eggs in her lifetime. So while they may lay 500, they might only lay 50 at a time, and that is what you are experiencing.

I find it very hard to believe a female beetle can lay 500 eggs all at once. 50 at once sounds more reasonable.

yeah well i hope this turns out ok bc once they turn into beetles i am going to start another batch so its not a waiting game going on.

even 50 worms is alright i guess i will just have to breed more once i get a round or 2 of experience

I used a craft box with compartments ;) The pupa stage is the easiest part but then its the only part I've really accomplished so far!

thats actually what i started with also but what i found is if you dont give them alot of room to move arround the faster they will pupate and also get the biggest worms you can find to pupate

Yeah, I use a tackle box where the compartments are 1x1 and it works fine for me.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
Mirage entered brumation yesterday, I'm gonna miss hanging out with my little guy.
