New user and beardie

Hey guys new to the community (obvs) and just got my Bearded Dragon. I've always had the greatest love for reptiles, amphibians, and basically anything you can catch near a creek or a swamp. That was pretty much my childhood haha skatin and catchin snakes and lizards. Of course when I got around 15-16 muddin around in a creek for a few hrs to catch some snakes or lizards isn't considered cool so this died down some. Anyway I've been debating on gettin a Bearded Dragon for the last 5 months or so and finally made the decision to go ahead and get the little guy. He is a spry little dude and boy does he love his rock ha. Here are a few pics of him bein awesome

thanks I'm really looking forward to raising him. I already gave him a bath and have had him out here and there, he's pretty rambunctious. I've yet to name him though, which I feel guilty about. HE NEEDS AN IDENTITY!!

I got him from petsmart. How about a guy there actually told me to get vita-sand for my baby beardie, like it even says it on the bag not to use it with babies. ..Just kinda surprised at how uniformed or how much this guy didn't care about his job.

And yes Jeffman he does look like he has some citrus (which I'm excited about). At his brightest times he has a lot of orange on his tail, around his spikes, shoulders, and middle back. I hope the color stays this distinct **crosses fingers**

Figured he might want to hang out on the window seal and get some actual sun light.

One cool thing is I'm about to move to an apt with a decent size balcony and I'm thinking about gettin or building him and outside enclosure. Of course this would only be while I was outside with him just in case some crazy bird, cat or something comes along.

haha yeah it is cute. Whenever Dude scratches at the glass, I feel some sort of parental obligation to take him out and play with him. How long have you had your new little one?

Just got him at ReptiCon Memphis yesterday. He's pretty shy. I've had a few others, which both got impaction from some Mealworms. One survived and was fine, the other, however, died the day we were supposed to take him to the vet. My little one hatched on February 1st of this year.

Dude seems to be doin great, he's very active, alert, and hungry. Man he eats and eats and eats. I'm almost convinced to try a couple crickets for myself. ha

Here he is enjoyin his little lizard hammock, which he slept on the first night lol

He is such a handsome guy! I love the name Dude My hubby and I call our boys and each other dude all the time :lol: His colours should get brighter and, I would think, more defined as he grows and sheds
Is there anything between him and the UVB light? Screens will block out about 50% of the UVB. Also what brand is the bulb? Most of the member's here attach their fluorescent fixtures inside the terrarium. You can use self adhesive hooks, or you can rig up a hanging system with thin chain or wire, so that it shines downwords and gives him the best exposure

Thanks!! I wanted to give him something to do in there haha plus he can he has multiple basking levels so he can regulate his temps and what not.

Haha that's how kinda how I named him that, every time I talked to him (nothing more than like hey little dude or something like that lol) I'd always call him lil guy or dude so. And ummm about the UV light, there is a lid between the light and Dude but I think the holes are so small I would think most of the light is getting through but here is a pic regardless.

--and that little black part is just for the trap door, the light sits behind it too, so it's not really blockin any light

Something like this is fine, right? I would hate to have to go out and get another UV set up. I bought this Bearded Dragon starter kit thing cause it was a few bucks cheaper(or so I thought). It came with a round UV light which I used for a few days, then I find out that round ones kinda suck so I got this. The bulb was $55 and the fixture was like $50 too. Actually made me pretty mad that Petsmart offers these little Bearded Dragon starter kits. I mean I'm not expecting the best equipment in there or anything but atleast the RIGHT equipment would've been nice.
