Hey just thought I'd say hi! I'm Josh and I recently got back in the reptile game with two bearded dragons (I owned several reptiles as a teenager such as iguanas, geckos, anoles, turtles, and snakes). I decided to go with bearded dragons as they look so cool and seem more manageable as far as length as opposed to an iguana that can get up to 6 feet...
Anyways I bought this setup the day before purchasing the two bearded dragons at Petco:
Enclosure: 40 Gallon Breeder Tank (Petco had a $1 per gallon sale...couldn't pass it up)
Lighting:
UVB: Initially bought a hood with uvb light at Petco, but after going home that day I found a better and cheaper setup online (the one I bought was only 5.0) Zoo Med hood and 18" Zoo Med Reptisun 10.0 florescent tube, and the BD's were only without uvb for about 5 days until it came in the mail which I read online it was fine if they are without for up to 2 weeks.
Basking: Zoo Med Basking Bulb 100 Watts with mini-dome
Night Heat: Zoo Med Infrared Red Bulb 50 Watts with mini-dome
Decorations: I had a large and small heat rocks from when I used to have reptiles back when I was a teenager as I said, but after researching the info for BD's about the dangers of heat rocks (which makes me sad I could have been potentially hurt my past reptiles...) I opted to just cut the cords off and use them as decoration rocks. I also bought a little rock cave at Petco for them to hide in. There is also another rock decoration I buried in the substrate that I had from past reptiles too.
Substrate: I went with orange calci-sand and used some a bag of white calci-sand I had from a long time ago too. I know I know...the dangers of the sand, but thankfully they haven't ate any of it. I've decided I'm going to go ahead and build a custom "fake rock" enclosure eventually to rid the sand completely just because of the possible risk of impact, sanitary reasons (from the waste soaking in the sand even with sifting isn't eliminated) etc, but thats a whole different thread lol.
Gauges: 2 Petco Thermometers and 1 Petco Humidity
Dishes: 1 Food and 1 Water Dish
Diet: Turnip greens and some Zoo Med juvenile prepared food. Sometimes some other veggies like carrots finely chopped. The feeder is crickets, but I'm going to switch over to black soldier fly maggots/worms as crickets are just not worth it to me for many reasons.
Here is the info on the two BD's I got at Petco. I read online how to check the gender (as I wanted a male & female), but they were still hard to tell at Petco...it wasn't till a week later I checked again with a better method (layin in hand, tail up, as opposed to the method I read online that said on their back...) that I realized they were both females. Oh well

Here are some pictures I took in the first few days. Note that a lot has changed such as the enclosure set up (uvb hood not pictured yet, and placed the food/water dishes in the corner where the rock cave is, and put the rock cave where that sand hill is). Also Athena, the smaller BD appears very dark and black as I think it was just from relocation stress, and is now very light brown colors now with little black "tiger" stripes.
Well that is all for now, and thought i'd introduce myself and my beardies!
