Hi!
I was first introduced to Boaby 3.5 years ago, he was a rehomey-boy who came with a fairly simple setup. Owners weren't sure how old he was, "about a year or something" so I didn't expect him to grow much more. He's now just over 2ft long! He has a 5ft viv im in the process of making a polystyrene 3D background for him......he is one with a very silly personality. He's the beardie who will run up to visitors, bite at their trouser lets then run off in a completely shocked manner when they squeal. Only visitors though.......never anyone who lives here!!!! His basking face is something else haha, I can never quite capture the silliness of it...
My other boy beardie, Jeff. He was a poor soul, he was a rescue, I picked him up 3 weeks ago today, I will say no more, his pic will be at the end of this blurb..... This little guy is 4 year old, he has (i suspect) an awful coccidia infestation - the usual coccidia poop that could clear a room. Kept with no UV for some time before rescue as the cable broke....(yeah). Before anyone pounces, I am a trained nurse and have done my time in IDU (infectious diseases unit) so am well trained in aseptic technique and infection control, my other 2 will not be exposed to the as-yet-undiagnosed coccidia which may also contain other things. Sidelining from his problems, his personality is....aww he's actually like a little baby puppydog. He's so small too 16ish inches and only 190 grams. Had been living on rocket lettace and some mealworms ..... he has MBD but vet and I are on the case, he feels more solid and has so much more strength than he did 3 weeks ago. his setup is very simplistic until I deal with the coccidia and 'whatever else'.
Top pic is how he was when I picked him up. Bottom is a number of hours after I got him home.
Bonnie is my girl, she's around 2 year old, a "rehomey" (depending on how you define rescue or rehome, she was also living in a very substandard environment) her clutchmate died (no wonder, 2 were kept in a minimally ventilated 3ft viv with a screw sticking out the floor and lived on 'bugs' only. not sure what bugs but i suspect mealworms :/ )
She's grand now though! Little madam she is! She came in a smelly 3ft viv which has been steamed to within one inch of its life and is now a dubia roach hotel haha. She is like a typical teenage female, she's scratching to get out one minute, jumps on your lap for cuddles (haha, i wish, shes totally just stealing me body head....what little i have) then pounces onto the window sill all like "heyyyyy im a queen i don't do fake UV" then realises she's cold because i cannot keep the room at 38 degrees so goes dark eventually then gives me the evils because of COURSE it's my fault!!!!
Apart form the beardies, I also have a leopard gecko called jackie (rehomey), a python called supertato (rescue) and a crestie called Weebl (rehomey) - non-reptile, theres the 3 rats and the rescue degu who drives me crazy on a daily basis!! (was give up as he was eating his cagemates...nom nom)
Anyway I hope i'll put down some roots here my little reptilian and rodential family keep me sane, and i owe them my life in more ways than one!
OMG I just went to insert an image - it's HTML! Ahhh that takes me back how cute!
I've joined here for a number of reasons (grrr @ facebook being one of them! I find that people who take the time to join an actual forum are more pleasant to converse with than those who troll on the fazbok!)
