Hello everyone!
So, I have recently found out that I will be the proud owner of a bearded dragon! Long story short, I got an e-mail from my husband (who is a teacher) the other day asking if I was interested in having a bearded dragon. Apparently he got on e-mail from a student's mom asking if he knew anyone who would want it. I don't know all the details but it is something like they moved and couldn't take it and now it is living at the grandmother's house. It would come with the aquarium, lights, etc. so we decided to go ahead and agree to take it.
I don't know much about it-they are calling it a him though who knows for sure. The mom said that he's on the smaller side for an adult (whatever that means, he's 2.5 years old) but that makes me wonder about what it has been eating and what they meant when they said "lights". Hopefully there's a UVB in there. So, since I have no idea what will be coming to me, I've been doing tons of reading on this site. Not only do I need to learn the basic care but I want to have a better chance of knowing if something is wrong when he gets here. We will be getting him some time next week so I'll post a picture then and get some more expert opinions on him. I'm really excited, though, as they seem like fun. I love how social most of them seem to be!
As far as myself...well, I've had pets of all kinds over the course of my life. Of course there were the typical dogs, cats, fish, hamsters, etc. I have had parakeets and rats. Sadly, I've developed an allergy to small furry things so we then made the switch to reptiles and arachnids. Currently, in addition to two dogs, we have three corn snakes, a crested gecko, two tarantulas, and an emperor scorpion. I was born and raised in the metro Atlanta, GA area but am now living in central Pennsylvania where I work as a career counselor at Penn State (yeah, I know, we're kind of having some issues here right now )
Glad to be here! There seem to be some very knowledgeable people on this forum so I expect to learn a lot. I'm not the best at message boards, though, and tend to get busy and not post for long periods of time. But I'm usually lurking and reading! Haha!
